Phranchise1213 Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Hey folks, put together a dedicated jig/word rod for next season. Its a mhf veritas paired up with a curado 200e7. Will be using this outfit for the following applications: Jigs (mostly football heads and boo jigs) Light Duty pitching Carolina Rigs Texas rigs 1/4 ounce and up I have heard some say 50 lb braid is the way to go, but I am leaning towards 12# or 15# YZH. Would love to hear what everybody thinks. Thanks in advance. Phil Quote
Packard Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 I can't find the question. EDIT: Yes, that will work fine. Quote
jkarol24 Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 If you are going to be in wood cover while pitching then 15-20 lb fluoro would be fine. If you get into grass and weeds, go to braid. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted March 4, 2012 Super User Posted March 4, 2012 I personaly only use 50lb braid on my flipping stick, and frog rod. For a more multi purpose rod like what you seem to be wanting to do, I use 30lb braid. When I use fluoro, it would be as a leader and it is usually 17lb Quote
Phranchise1213 Posted March 4, 2012 Author Posted March 4, 2012 Thanks for the replies. I do have a flipping setup with 65 lb braid already for the nasty stuff. I guess the question is more about should I go with braid for the sensitivity factor? Do you guys throw braid/mono or fluoro for your texas rigs, worms and jigs? Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted March 4, 2012 Super User Posted March 4, 2012 With Jigs, (Tight line, all the time) I want braid. With everyother bottom contact technique where the line is almost always semi-slack, give me fluoro carbon. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted March 4, 2012 Super User Posted March 4, 2012 Personally I use fluoro or Hybrid for most of my worms and jigs now. I'll use braid when I get into really thick grass. I was a braid only person for a long time. One thing I eventually learned about braid over time is that when you have some slack in the line, you tend to lose most of the sensitivity. It's fantastic if you can keep a tight line all the time. With wind, that can start to get troublesome. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted March 4, 2012 Super User Posted March 4, 2012 If you are going to be in wood cover while pitching then 15-20 lb fluoro would be fine. If you get into grass and weeds, go to braid. ^^^Yup^^^^ I use 12-15# Quote
MrSwimJig Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 I would go with Yo-Zuri line, it is an outstanding line. Quote
kikstand454 Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Yeah the yozuri will be fine for what you're wanting to do I with it. 15# yozuri is my general line for such things. That being said....my jig/worm rod has 15# berkley flouro on it right now....... I only use braid for grass mats. (Frogs, flipping). Quote
