Super User Redlinerobert Posted March 2, 2012 Super User Posted March 2, 2012 I had an E55. The way that thing pulled was nothing short of beastly. Once it got into the twisties though, different story. Mustang better than both? 1 Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted March 2, 2012 Super User Posted March 2, 2012 Having mustang being put into the same discussion as these other actual sports cars is an utter embarrassment to sports cars. The solid rear axle, over weight, nose heavy pigs are not even close to being sports cars. All the time I spent around sports car racing they were a joke, people laughed they were okay as long as you didn't have to turn or slow down.... 2 Quote
scrutch Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 It's mostly true what you guys are saying about comparing the two. I just like to poke a little fun when the opportunity arises. They're in two different classes. The Ferrari has been engineered and built using no budget constraints. Using R&D from F1, again no budget. The Vette on the other hand is in a world of budgets. I think they've put together a pretty darned good car given the constraints of the budget. It makes me wonder what the Vette engineers could do with the spaghetti guys' money. I guess I'm just a little ornery. Sorry Robert. 1 Quote

Ok I realize that it has no place being compared to a Ferrari. I was trying to get under some peoples skin. But it can't be compared to a Corvette? The Mustang/Corvette rivalry is probably the oldest domestic SPORTS car rivalry in the country. The Mustang isn't a sports car? What is it then? You say they can't corner. They weren't designed for it. They were designed to go in a straight line and beat Corvettes and Camaros and they do that pretty well. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 2, 2012 Super User Posted March 2, 2012 The Mustang is a saloon. A Corvette is a coupe. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted March 2, 2012 Super User Posted March 2, 2012 I see nothing but a 599 with a tiny bit of line change, nothing special. I still prefer the 550/575 look in the model. Really dont see why some of you guys ate comparing a GT car with a Sports Car like the vette. Two big different categories. And Brian to saying mustangs suck in a corner, my maximum motorsport equipped solid axle cobra has been eating IRS M3's and Carreras for a while now. Nose heavy is bad just like a 911's *** heavy, it's just a backward disadvantage in racing both weight distributions. I do agree with you about not being sports cars but because they are GT cars. OHIO Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 The Mustang is a saloon. A Corvette is a coupe. A saloon is just another word for sedan. A Mustang isn't a sedan. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 2, 2012 Super User Posted March 2, 2012 It has a back seat....it's a saloon. I didn't make up the terms, and could care less about this stupid debate. Just passing along info. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted March 2, 2012 Super User Posted March 2, 2012 Call it what you want. It has a back seat to avoid additional insurance premiums over a true coupe. Sorry, Camaros, Mustangs, and Challengers are pony cars, not sports cars. Sporty saloons. That will probably get under OHIO's skin, LOL. Quote

That includes a huge budget maintenance, difference is a corvette engine can last more than 6,000miles, while the ferrari (like almost every model) needs an engine overhaul. Quote

Sedans are saloons since you know America has to have their own name for everything. The pony car is the same as a GT, but of course we are just cheap when it comes to luxury options Then again, car manufacturers like making up their own styles, like the 4 door coupe and two door sedan Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 2, 2012 Super User Posted March 2, 2012 LOL, Google translator says Gran Tourismo is Large Vacation in English. Toss in the omologato fo GTO, and it's approved. I love dumb car names. 1 Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted March 2, 2012 Super User Posted March 2, 2012 To answer your question: The Mustang isn't a sports car? What is it then? - It is a pony car. This is a classic example of why it is not a sports car "You say they can't corner. They weren't designed for it". A sports car not designed to corner, seriously? The classic fight was Mustang and Camaro, not Corvette. 1 Quote

OHIO Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 The classic fight was Mustang and Camaro, not Corvette. I didn't say it was the only rivalry. There is a huge rivalry between Mustangs and Corvettes. Ask any Corvette driver and most of them will say they hate Mustangs. I'm done with all this. Everyone has different opinions and they aren't changing them. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 2, 2012 Super User Posted March 2, 2012 Ask any Corvette driver and most of them will say they hate Mustangs. Ask the same guys about LTDs or F150s, and they'll hate those too. It's a standard knee jerk response from the Chevy guys. Ask them about an Impala, and they say they're nice. LOL, some of you guys take a car thread way too seriously. Some are simply meant to be enjoyed. Quote

Ask any Corvette driver and most of them will say they hate Mustangs. Most corvette owners think everything else is junk, that's not really a knock on mustangs. My favorite was when LS1/6 vette owners thought their car made more power than a LS1/6 Trans Am because their car says vette on it. truth though is GM really didn't detune the engine when they put them in F-Bodies, Quote

Super User Redlinerobert Posted March 2, 2012 Super User Posted March 2, 2012 It's all relative. Individuals that are in a financial situation to buy a Ferrari or Lamborghini are not looking at Corvettes or Mustangs, or vice versa. Regardless, as a car enthusiast I don't care what you drive. That's the beauty of being a gearhead. Quote
