catchnm Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 On 2-20 I fell at work from out of the delivery truck and turned my knee pretty bad. Muddled through and on 2-27 felt like I had it licked.....back at 100%. But when I got up on Tuesday I could hardly put weight on it. Turns out I tore the meniscus and quite probably now the ACL. Doc thinks I turned on it wrong while sleeping Monday night and finished it off. Will get MRI one day this week to be sure but I believe I will probably miss most of the spring fishing here this year....that's really disappointing. I've been clearing out, organizing, and aquiring new gear and was to be off 4 days next week during the full moon to get a real start on the pre-spawn. Good part is it still qualifies as a work related injury so all medical will be taken care of. Hate it but I should be back up and running and gunning after a couple of months. Quote
flyhatch Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I had a bucket handle meniscus tear couple years back. worked on it for a month or so. I couldnt lock my knee out and it was pretty painfull but I got used to it. Went in for a scope, out the same day. no biggie, took a while to feel 100 percent. If you tore the acl that a whole different ballgame. Hope its just a meniscus. and you recover quickly. Quote
Traveler2586 Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Get well soon, and back to fishin' Cheers, Eric Quote
shootermcbob Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Good luck. Listen to your physician and physical therapist. Quote
BigMoneyGrip Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I had the same thing to happen to my right knee. I was putting weight on it after two weeks and walking on it after a month. The rehab was two months and wasn't that bad. I didn't have ANY pain after the surgery. The hard part was trusting the knee after I got it overhauled. That was eight years ago. Quote
quanjig Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Oy, I wouldn't wish an ACL tear and recon on my worst enemy. I've done both knees. Left knee even tore the rebuild! I'm probably a candidate for knee replacement shortly, pisser is I'm only 47 and they don't have a replacement on the market that will last as long as I'll be alive!! You will be fine. Sucks for about two weeks or so then after you get past the dull throbbing pain of the knee healing, it's all good! The surgery has come a long way since I did my first one in '83. Plaster cast from hip to ankle, in the hospital for 8 days, in the cast for 6 weeks. Last one in '94, outpatient, awesome meds!, knee imobilizer, crutches for about 2.5 weeks Before you get the brace. Fish will still be there when you are ready to get back at it! Good luck, let's us know how it progresses. Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted March 1, 2012 Super User Posted March 1, 2012 Make sure you fill out all the proper injury paperwork from your employer. Also, don't tell them you think you finished-off at home. I'm not saying lie to your employer, but do not admit fault. This could give them something to argue down the road, although I hope it doesn't come down to that for you. I am in the middle of a nightmare work comp case right now. If you give an inch, they will take thirteen feet. Even if you love your employer, work comp can get messy. Best of luck in your healing process. Quote
