Keel Weighted Hook Tips

Usually they are used for swimbaits, correct? Im gonna try throwing my rage craws and space monkeys on a keel weighted hook for a different approach, yall try this? or try it with any other rage product?

I use them for mainly rage products. Rage craws, anacondas, space monkeys, eeliminator, and flukes when I need some depth. A rage craw plus a 1/8oz keel weighted hook was on of my best lures last season. Could swim it on top of the water like a buzz bait and could also fish it like a texas rig. I like using them with just because it is easy to change real quick, with a 1/8oz keel weighted hook I can cover about anything. Plus I think it looks more natural when using a craw falling more horizontally than straight up and down.

Last year Big O told me about this so I started using the rage craw like that. It works well. Many baits will fish that way and at times produce very well.

Last year on the RoadTrip I had the privilege of fishing one day with Big O and

Steezy. Big O fished the Lobster (Falcon) T-rigged, Steezy the Craw (Summer Craw)

on a keel weighted hook. The keel weight causes the entire presentation to fall a little

slower and almost perfectly horizontal. Steezy ALMOST kept up with Big O! You are

REALLY going to like that rigging.

For anbody that did not know owner has made a new twistlock hook 3/32 oz weight in 6/0 & 5/0 & 4/0 disigned to Gary Yamamoto specs for senko style baits. It is a lighter wire hook that works great for all plastics when your looking for light weight presentations. Model 5167W-704 thru 706.

I fish this rig alot from spring to fall. I like the Mustad because you can slid the weight up and down the shank of the hook to get it to fall head first or flutter down. I fish there 1/0 to the 5/0 hook. The 1/0 I fish on a Tiny Paca craw, French Fry worm, and then I go up to the 3/0 or 4/0 for bigger worms,lizards,flukes, this is a killer rig for sure!

I've used them some for Rage Craws, works well, seemed to me like they went through rocky areas much better than a T-Rig, or football head too.

Yeah...you get more "glide" flipping a keel weighted craw-type plastic, than you get with normal T-rigging.

I LOVE fishing a keel-weighed smoking rooster . Jig it up and it kind of "swims off" randomly in any of the 360 degrees from its origin.

Steezy rode with me from Tx to the Roadtrip and on the way he asked what bait presentation I thought would guarantee that he caught fish regardless of conditions... I told him that the Rage Rig using a Rage Craw or Space Monkey was the most lethal approach and I've used it for many years when the bite was both extremely good or extremely tough. I told him that if he stayed with it, not only would he gain confidence, he would see it's effectiveness and probably catch as many or more fish than anyone.

It is the more subtle, gliding and basically horizontal fall with the appendages fluttering that is so attractive to the fish. Works in both cold and hot conditions. He also fished with me for a couple of those days and I came close to switching over to the Rage Rig because of his high catch ratio but that wouldn't have been fair to him Just do it for awhile and if you find the fish, They'll eat it. I like the Moaner weighted Stroker hook for this as they were designed for exactly this with the weight positioned further down the hook shank for a more horizontal fall, plus the weight is more hydro dynamic in shape (I assisted with their design)

Keep it slow similar to weightless senko style fishing and if there are big fish around don't hesitate to put the Anaconda 7" or 10" on it... One of my favorite Shallow water Big Fish Techniques. Lightly Tipping tails w/Chartreuse JJ's Magic is a standard for me when fishing this rig.

been using keel weighted hook last couple years on Zoom Speed craws.... and now on the Rage craws... etc.

This rig is also great for the Grande Bass Rattlesnake, I like Chart/Pepper. I rarely flip a normal t-rig anymore. I use the Owner Beast hook and I also have a couple of the Moaners I won in a contest but have yet to hook a fish with them..

They have been out for quite a number of years, from several companies..

Many lures work great rigged on them, including the Super Fluke, the Horny Toad, and even a SENKO if you want to "t-rig" a hook as opposed to wacky-rigging it, but with a faster fall rate., or to work at a deeper level of the water column.

Just about any soft-plastic that you want to work with a horizonatl angle , they work great on.
