backcast88 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Since Bass Pro is having there rod trade it I am going to get a new rod. I am looking to pick up a Carbon Lite or Veritas. I am going to be using it primarily for texas rigging soft plastics and am trying to decide if I want the 6'6" medium fast or 6"8" medium xfast Carbon Lite or 6'6" medium xfast Veritas. I have held the Carbon Lite side by side with the Veritas and they both are very light weight and balance well. Which do you think is more sensitive? Between the 6'6" and 6'8" Carbon Lite, which would be a better choice for my desired use? Thanks. Quote
Elk River Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I dont have either but hear good things about both. Some say Abu's fish higher than it's power rating. Quote

NitroZ9 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I have a buddy who swears by the Carbonlites. He has about 20 of them. Rod power depends on how heavy a texas rig you will be throwing and with what size line. I use a 7' MF for fishing 1/8 oz. shakey heads with 6-8 pound line. If you're going to be fishing 1/8-1/4 oz. or greater texas rigs on 12 pound or higher line, you might want to consider a medium heavy rod. Quote
dcorp Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 A good way to compare sensitivity is hold one rod in your left hand and one in your right. Close your eyes and gently scrape the rod tips on the ceiling. Since BPS ceilings tend to be 100 feet tall you can do it on the ground, try to find some carpet so you don't damage their rods, lol. If one is more sensitive than the other you can tell for sure. If you cant tell doing that test you cant tell on the water either. Quote
dcorp Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 When I held the Veritas at BPS it did seem a fair amount stiffer then the Carbon Lite of the same lenght and power. All the abus run stiff, including the new Villains. Great worm rods but I wouldnt fish a jerk or crankbait with them. Quote
backcast88 Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 I will be using 8 lb flouro with 1/8 oz to 3/16 oz weighted texas rigs. Right now I am leaning towards the Carbon Lite. The only real question is, do I get the 6'6" medium fast or 6'8" medium xfast? Quote
backcast88 Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 The Veritas is out. I went and looked at both the Veritas and Carbon Lite and the Veritas is stiffer then what I am looking for and I don't really like the metal butt piece. Both are well made and sensitive but I like the Carbon Lite better and will be getting one. I am still not sure if I want the 6'6" medium fast or 6'8" medium xfast. Any suggestions? Quote
Elk River Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 If it was me 6'8 xfast. Or have you considered the 6'9 ML. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 1, 2012 Global Moderator Posted March 1, 2012 6' 8" would get my vote too. A couple extra inches to pick up more line on the hookset and a little more reach to help steer fish away from cover. Quote
backcast88 Posted March 1, 2012 Author Posted March 1, 2012 I took inventory of my gear and bank account and will be getting both the 6'6" medium fast and 6'8" medium xfast. The 6'8" will be my soft plastics rod and the 6'6" will be used as a general purpose rod for top water, spinner baits, and live bait. Quote
