Super User Bassn Blvd Posted February 29, 2012 Super User Posted February 29, 2012 ALL purpose combo? I already have one, actually two, and it's the G-Loomis NRX 893C with a Lews Tournament Pro. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted February 29, 2012 Super User Posted February 29, 2012 NRX 893 with a JDM 12 Antares HG. Quote
scrutch Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Dobyn's DX743C SH with a Chronarch 50MG. Would like to try the NRX's for finesse. Have to get back to ya on that one... Quote
Red Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I have always wanted one of those Daiwas that was kinda lime green color with the cork knobs, with maybe some yellow and a pink spool? Not sure what is was called, in a lefty of course. Rod would have to be a well made custom, a flippin stick most likely. Quote

Custom 6'9" MH Fast spiral wrapped micros with a TDZ-103H Quote
Jason Penn Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 megabass purple dragon for the rod, and don't know on the reel. i've had chronarch, tdz, steez, and i'm pretty much happy with my bps reels! Quote
0119 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Ultimate to me has to be custom made, not off the shelf. The rod would have to be all purpose in nature so med hvy but with a bit of tip flex. The reel would have to be custom too. A Jerry Foran custom made Ambassadeur 4600 maxed out w/ 5 bearings, ceramic pawl, hand honed pinion and crowned shaft. Because ultimate means it would last forever and not be subject to Shimano's inability to have parts available for more than a few years. Quote

One of Shimano's greatest attributes is the availability of parts, direct usually, but almost always in the after-market. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted February 29, 2012 Super User Posted February 29, 2012 I don't have any really expensive desires for reels and rods. My baitcasters most of them cost me between $12 to $60 on sale and to me they work ok for now. If anyone remembers me from the old days here i started out bass fishing with the cheap trout fishing tackle and the bass tore it all up in less than a week. Even the cheap $8 spinning reels broke too. When i lost a 3lber oneday with my cheap reels and line it was time to upgrade. I guess one nice baitcaster setup would be ok....I'm not sure which one??? Super User roadwarrior Posted February 29, 2012 Super User Posted February 29, 2012 Just build your collection over time. Start with a better spinning reel this year: Shimano Symetre 2500FJ would be my suggestion. Quote
guitarkid Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Some sort of magabass stuff or custom. -gk Quote
pondassasin Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 A custom Kistler Z Bone ML paired with a Core 50MG7 with a Yumeya BFS shallow spool for some finesse action. Quote
DaveT63 Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Either my custom St Croix SCV 7' MH with micros and Core 101MG or my MBR842C GLX with a Core 51MG7. But I would love to try a Steez 100HLA on that custom. Quote
Mike__D Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 For me the reel would have to be the 2003 TD-ito 103M (Megabass/Daiwa) paired with the Steez Complie-X 7'1 H casting rod. If I knew more about JDM rods I would probably go that route, but for now I'd choose the compile X. Mike D Quote
Fat-G Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Calcutta 400 TE, or a Daiwa Black Sheep 250 Low Down Customs 8'6" XH, with a 19.5" grip and spiral micros. 25# CXX Oh wait, I already have that. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted March 5, 2012 Super User Posted March 5, 2012 PRODUCTION RODS SHOULD NOT BE ON ANYONE'S LIST! I would choose a custom built rod on a Batson Rainshadow RX-8+ blank (C-865) with Fuji Titanium SIC guides, Fuji reel exposed blank seat, and garnet and gold guide wraps and rings (Go NOLES) , balanced perfectly to fit a 2012 Japanese Domestic Market Antares custom painted with garnet as main color and gold as small accents. SausageFingers Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Pretty straight forward for me. My 6.4:1 SX on a 6-6 MH Veritas. Not very sexy but I absolutely love that setup. Quote

That setup sounds cool but, MY ultimate isn't YOUR ultimate. I can't list a tricked out custom rod for my ultimate because I've never fished with one and know little about them. What does aftermarket paint have to with making an ultimate setup? You can paint an Uglystick and a zebco 33 in 'Noles colors and it is still an ugly stick! I'll take my Dobyn's DX line any day and twice on Tuesday. (GO IRISH!). Quote

Super User aavery2 Posted March 6, 2012 Super User Posted March 6, 2012 I would probably go with the Revo Elite Aurora on a new Dobyns Zayta. Would be a nice combo to fish. Quote
telmomarques Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 the rod/reel in picture the rod is rated for 3/8 oz to 4 oz i have throw 1/2 oz spinnerbait all way to 3.5 oz swimbait with no problem Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 6, 2012 Super User Posted March 6, 2012 3/8 to 4 0z? I don't really understand how that works, but it sounds way too heavy for anything I fish. Quote
