Super User Long Mike Posted February 27, 2012 Super User Posted February 27, 2012 I have a story to tell. Six years ago, when the 2nd annual Road Trip was announced, I was very tempted to sign up, but I was a newbie to bass fishing and to BassResource. All of the members who had signed up had hundreds, if not thousands of posts on the boards. I had maybe, twenty. So, I asked on the forum if the Road Trip was reserved for only the very active members and/or experienced anglers. The overwhelming response was "Hell no! Come join us!" I signed up, but I confess that as a newbie I was very concerned about being "left out of the loop" when it came to the after-hours gatherings. I figured that a clique of the established members would form and I would be left standing on the outside, looking in. I couldn't have been more wrong. It made no difference to the attending group if I had one week of bass fishing experience or twenty years. The camaraderie was great, and is the one reason why I have not missed another Road Trip. I suppose it all boils down to the fact that the road trip is not a tournament. It's just a bunch of folks who want to get together, fish, sip a few suds, have a LOT of fun and tell as many lies as possible. We members who will be attending don't care who you are, or what experience you have, or whether or not you have a boat. I assure you, you will be welcome to join us. And I assure you, you will have a GREAT time. Quote

riskkid 2 Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Well said Mike. Great memories from that trip. As I recall we shared a guide the first day of the trip, high winds and tough fishing but we each managed at least one nice fish.....not too bad for a couple rookies! Quote
scrutch Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Last year was my first Roadtrip and Mike tells the truth. These guys are a welcoming, friendly bunch of guys that I enjoyed spending time with. Oh, did I mention helpful? These guys will take a genuine interest in your success on the lake. Why more could you ask for in a fishing trip? 2012...NO EXCUSES! Quote

That day I caught my, back then, PB at 4-6. As you said, not too bad for a couple of rookies. Quote

Sfritr Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 It is killing me not to be able to attend.. Unfortunately, work and baseball conflict with scheduling. I wonder if I can get RoadWarrior to wear a hat cam and I can skype in during the beer drinking sessions? It could be the road trips first annual live action camera... One day I WILL get there Quote

Super User grimlin Posted February 27, 2012 Super User Posted February 27, 2012 I remember asking about how long they plan on doing this,I believe Glenn said there's a 20+ year plan as long as they can get people to participate.I'm gonna make it one year, but right now Money, time among other things just aren't allowing me to make it. Long as they keep doing it I'm bound to make it one year. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 27, 2012 Super User Posted February 27, 2012 No cameras allowed! (If you don't have a picture, it never happened.) Quote

Red Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 If the road trip ever comes back to Texas I will probably be there. I know it would be a great time!! Cliff Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted March 1, 2012 Author Super User Posted March 1, 2012 Red, I very much want the Road Trip to come back to Texas, but the majority of our membership is located East of us. Maybe one year we will throw chance to the wind and go back to Fork or even to Toledo Bend or Rayburn or to (do I dare to dream?) Lake Falcon. Quote

I'd fly, not pull my boat all that way from Indiana. Mike, your biggest headache at Falcon might be finding boat seats for all the fly-ins! 1 Quote

Mike, your biggest headache at Falcon might be finding boat seats for all the fly-ins! Falcon is 2300 miles one way for me. Nearly twice the distance that it is to KY Lake, Pickwick, or Guntersville. Lake Champlain would be nice. Largemouth, Smallmouth, Northern Pike, Salmon, and plenty of water (435 square miles). Not to mention that one of our members has seen what could have been "Champ", the Loch Ness Monster of Lake Champlain. It's only a five hour drive for me vs. an 18 hour drive to Pickwick, KY Lake, or Guntersville. Quote
