steezy Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Do you direct tie your crankbait or use a snap swivel? Quote
Super User Shane J Posted September 22, 2009 Super User Posted September 22, 2009 No brainer for me, I direct tie everything. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 22, 2009 Super User Posted September 22, 2009 For crankbaits....a snap, specifically a #2, 3 or 4 Duo-Loc snap. No swivel! Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted September 22, 2009 Super User Posted September 22, 2009 Direct tie on most. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted September 22, 2009 Super User Posted September 22, 2009 sometimes I'll use a duo-loc but for the most part I direct tie Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 It depends. If the crankbait has a split ring on the front eye, then I tie directly. If there is no split ring, then I use a clip. I like to have that degree-of-freedom level in place. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 22, 2009 Super User Posted September 22, 2009 I forgot to mention that I remove all split rings from the line tie. Even the oval style are the source of most foul running baits. Quote
alwayslooking Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 i use the snaps,,,not swivels,,,allows me to change colors or size very quickly... Quote
SWH Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I used to use snaps all the time. I didnt have much luck so i tied directly to the bait and started catching some bass. Makes no sense but i am now direct tie only even though it takes some time to change baits. Quote
Stasher1 Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Norman Speed Clips on all cranks, but only after I remove the split ring. Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted September 22, 2009 Super User Posted September 22, 2009 For crankbaits....a snap, specifically a #2, 3 or 4 Duo-Loc snap. No swivel! x2.... Quote
CHEVYRIDAZ Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 No brainer for me, I direct tie everything. X2 Quote
Stringjam Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I use a SNAP ONLY on all crankbaits. I also take off the split-ring. I think the poll might be a little skewed - - as some of the "direct tie" people might be tying directly to a split-ring, which would not actually be DIRECT tying. Direct tying to a crankbait's line-tie is one of the best ways I know of to kill the action. Quote
aarogb Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Question, why do you guys not use the swivel but you use the snaps? Quote
Stringjam Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Question, why do you guys not use the swivel but you use the snaps? I think the better question might be - why WOULD you use a swivel. Crankbaits don't spin in a circle.....using a swivel is just a bunch of unneeded weight and hardware. Quote

Zilch Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I didn't vote because it all depends on how lazy I'm feeling. I either tie on directly or use a snap. Quote
bmadd Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Berkley Cross-Lok snaps. No split rings. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted September 22, 2009 Super User Posted September 22, 2009 Direct Tie One exception is during vacation. For instance, many Canadian lakes offer multiple opportunities (e.g. largemouth, smallmouth, walleyes & pike). When I get tired of cutting & retying, I'll sometimes use a No.2 Duolock Snap (Offshore Angler) without a swivel. Roger Quote
BobP Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I use a Normal Speed Clip or a crosslock snap after I remove the split ring. I'd like the Speed Clips to have a little larger ring, say the size of a #2 split ring, but I'm generally happy with them and have never lost a fish on one. It sure makes changing crankbaits easy! Quote
Mottfia Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 O rings for me. I have no trouble with them or retieing. I haven't experimented with trying straight to the lure but I have read that it takes away from the action of the bait. You guys will have to tell me yall's take on that Mottfia Quote
Danny1991 Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 If there's a split ring I tie directly to that, if not I add one then tie to it. Quote
ALbasser Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 No-swivel snap for me with the split ring removed. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted September 23, 2009 Super User Posted September 23, 2009 I don't fish cranks much, but when I do, the majority of the time I tie with a Rapala knot. If I'm going to do some experimenting with cranks, I'll use a snap, only for expedience sake. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted September 23, 2009 Super User Posted September 23, 2009 Direct tie with a rapala knot. Quote
