Guys,

I've got a Minn Kota Maxxum 55lbs thrust trolling motor that I have had since my boat was new. The issue I seem to be having is that I don't seem to have the top end speed I used to have with this motor. I changed to a new battery and also put in a new plug that was slightly corroded and also clipped the wires back to make sure they weren't corroded also but this didn't seem to help. Do you think that maybe some parts on the motor could be causing the lack of power or could the speed control on the foot pedal maybe have some kind of problem. Everything works it just doesn't give me the full speed I used to get. Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

It is possible to wear out a trollling motor. They generally don't die quickly, they die a lingering death due to being smacked into countless stumps. I don't know how old yours is, but that could be a factor.

Probably time for new brushes, and/or an armature.
