Im going fishing in the morning on Harris Lake here in NC. Has anybody around NC fished this lake recently? Its supposed to be 30 degrees in the morning and warm up to mid 50's and Im assuming water temp is around 48-50. Any suggestions on what to tie, location, what to look for? Thanks, Ill try to put up a report sometime tomorrow.

Harris is definately a love/hate lake. Probably the best lake in NC where you can catch a 10# plus, but can also frustrate you more than you will know. It has been years since I have been there, and even then I was in highschool and we fished for crappie. Glad you were able to get out and catch some and sorry no one could give you any useful info.

yea it was pretty frustrating for a while, we didnt land the first fish until the afternoon. but thats fishing

NCbassmaster4life.......if you find a topo map of Harris let me know I'd like to get one too.

Yeah, but the topwater bite there in the summer can be amazing, If you are in statesville, then you are making a haul to fish Harris. I figured you would be more of a Norman, Highrock fisherman. Did you hear about the state record spot caught on Norman here recently?

I fished norman on the saturday that spot was caught, pretty sure I saw them weighing it in actually at the tourney... some of the windiest weather i have ever fished in... i couldnt tell ya if i got a bite at all out there much less catch a fish. 3 foot rollers in a basstracker= terrible time. We were prefishing for a tourney. Thankfully The winds were only moderate on sunday and we caught three good ones and a bunch of shorts.

Harris can definitely be hot or cold...it took 28lbs to win the Piedmont classic tournament last Saturday. You always have a shot at a DD there...and this is the time of year to get one.

Dunno about that, there are plenty of other lakes in the piedmont that hold 10#+ bass especially in the triangle.

Not saying the other lakes don't hold them, but tell me which lake there has had more DD catches than Harris.

Which other reservoirs are you talking about?

Little river and lake Michie of durham,nc hold 10#+ bass and prob some of the biggest in NC. Little River is owned by the water treatment facility and the city has access to the lake. A lot of people do not know this but with tons of research and knowing what I know this is true and you will have to experience this for yourself....the reservoirs are both ran by the city, Little River is not allowing gas motors but they do rent jon boat with trolling motor. Lake Michie is in Bahama NC and is one of the oldest reservoirs in NC holds some 10#+ bass...hope to see you guys out there this year.

I have fished the little river, but not Lake Michie. I still think you are wrong on Falls having more 10# catches than Harris, but hey if I am wrong I am wrong ( not trying to start a peeing contest). I will look into fishing Lake Mchie here soon . I know Lake Wheeler has had quite a few 10# catches in recent years, but in my mind Harris is still the best chance for it.

I've heard about Little River having big bass, but haven't made the trip yet. Lake Benson in Garner also had some dd's caught "back in the day", but the last few years it's really gone downhill. Same thing at Lake Johnson...probably part of the normal decline in qualify fish as lakes age and cover is lost. I may have to try Little River..thanks for the info.

While Lake Hickory Is nowhere close for big fish as Falls, Harris, or any of the lakes down that way It still holds its own with regards to durn good fishing and big bass.

I have family down near the coast and I fish three private ponds in Pender county. Big bass and numbers are the rule and can't wait to get down that way over Easter weekend.
