smpen Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Is this a good reel to use? I am thinking about buying a used one and was wandering how they hold up. I am wanting to buy a reel for crankbaits for around $100. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted February 25, 2012 Super User Posted February 25, 2012 Is this a good reel to use? I am thinking about buying a used one and was wandering how they hold up. I am wanting to buy a reel for crankbaits for around $100. Trusty old 200B's, it's a great reel.I use my 201B5 for shallow running lipped, and suspending lipless cranks. I use my 201B38 for deep running cranks, ie DD22 types. Tight Lines All! Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Great reliable reels. the 5 will make a great cranking reel. There have been some nice ones on our flea market in the 80.00 price range. Quote
Wild Bill [NY] Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Great reels, and often found used for between $50-$70 dollars today in good condition. I have a dozen of the 201B [same reel, just a leftie] The 5/1 is what I use for cranks. For other applications, I use the 6.3/1 . Quote
baluga Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 The old Curado 100B is better than the Curado 200E5 in casting and smoothness on the retrieve. Quote
bugman Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Can't go wrong with the old "Mean Green" just make sure the reel is in good condition. Most of mine are used often but hold up great. A good repair guy can replace worn parts if needed. I bought five a few years back at wal-mart for $49.00 each just after the model change. Gave one to my dad he likes it as much as he high end reels. Some say the Shimano Citca is comparable but I have not fished one. Quote
