What's The Best Large Mouth Bass Lake In South Carolina?

What's the best Large Mouth Bass lake in South Carolina, and why?? I'm thinking of running away from home for some warm fishing. I like to stay at state Parks that have cabins. Point me to someplace.

Santee cooper is probably best well known. Lakes Wylie , jocasse and hartwell are good one to as. Lake Murray use to be great but is more striped bass fishery now. You can still get some 20 pound sacks but there few and far between.

Clark's Hill may not have the biggest fish or it may but I like it because it is very under developed in alot of areas.

I have fished most of the lakes mentioned either in tournaments or while on vacation and Santee-Cooper is my favorite. Lots of 5-7lb fish and of course bigger fish are there. I caught a 11-7 largemouth in the river below the lakes. Most lakes SC are heavy recreation lakes, boats and jet skis. Santee-Cooper has to many snakes, alligators, stumps,logs, weeds and trees and various other critters for the aforementioned. Perfect bass lake.

Santee State Park in Santee, SC sounds like what you are looking for. It sits just off of I-95 on the upper lake. I-95 actually crosses a part of the upper lake, I believe. I have never stayed at the park but I have launched there and it appears very nice, and they do have cabin rental. Some of the cabins are on the water with a dock, appear very nice. Saw a store and bait shop, not sure what else is available, just google the park.

I............. Santee-Cooper has to many snakes, alligators, stumps,logs, weeds and trees and various other critters for the aforementioned. Perfect bass lake. Santee State Park in Santee, SC sounds like what you are looking for...............

Actually, I've been looking at Santee-Cooper and the State Park on the Internet, and on Google Earth. I've found a web page that show where they placed fish attractors. Took me a while to realize that I was looking down on a Cyprus swamp though.

I'm think'n bout running away from home and gett'n me one of those water front homes parked out in the swamp

J, I may have to rethink Santee-Cooper...... I just went to Black's Camp website and got a look at the gator being displayed between two people

I think if I'm going to be on a lake, I want to be the one on TOP of the food chain !!! OMG, that thing is BIG!!

Do yourself a favor and visit Lake Jocasse this spring. It would be a bit shorter trip for you, just basically come straight down the Appalachains (scenic driving) It's the most beautiful lake on Earth... hands down. And it very well may hold the State record Largemouth. Bring a big trout swimbait and a camera. The water is clearer than diamonds. Several species of bass, huge trout, waterfalls, rock cliffs, ect. ect. ect. I'm not sure what the state park situation is, but I'm quite sure there are some real nice areas nearby. If not on Jocasse, then Keowee. .

I am retired military so I stay at a military rest camp on the lower lake. If it were not available I would stay at Blacks. They have everything you need and some of the friendliest people in the country. Don't worry to much about the alligators but I would keep my eyes on the snakes, lol................Al

Oh God, the snakes. Had one plop right on my deck, seemingly out of nowhere. The gators are no big deal. Even had one in the boat, don't ask - and yes it was intentional, LOL. Most of the time, they leave when you are fishing. We did have one follow under the boat. Pretty funny when the graph reads 1' of water, and you are in 4'.

The people at Black's Camp are super. We were having trouble finding fish last spring, and they really got us in the right direction, and on some good fish - a few PBs that week as well..

I will also cast my vote for Santee-Cooper. The Cypress trees hold some huge bass. Mid to late March should see some huge 10+ pound fish as the bass enter the spawn. I already have three days I am planning to fish at the end of the month depending on the moon phase. As for accomodations, Blacks is about as good as it gets.

Lake Murray still host a lot of bass tournaments. However, you have to be good at fishing high pressure, clear water lakes.

A VERY under rated but good lake is Lake Wateree. There is a decent camp at Lake Wateree State Park in Winnsboro. Wateree has tons of docks to skip in the spring and lots of alligator grass.

Hey guys I am going fishing with a friend at Santee tomorrow 25 February. The weather here in coastal SC has been warm and I'm hoping for some good action. We are putting in at Jack's landing and this will be my first time fishing this lake... he has been there a few times and told me he hasn't had much luck...he's an old saltwater guy...do you guys have any tips on how to catch 'em up there? Don't worry I'm a C&R guy so if I catch one I will take a picture, post it here, and tell you how and where I caught it...lol. Thanks for any help you can give.
