Super User LgMouthGambler Posted February 21, 2012 Super User Posted February 21, 2012 I have about 5 reels and 6 rods that Im going to be trading in during their reel and rod trade in this coming week. Was wondering if anyone had an general idea of about how much they give you per rod and reel towards a new product. For the reels I have an old CU200 Bantam Curado Greenie, and a Citica from that same year in the boxes. A Abu Garcia Cardinal CX700 spinning from about 2 years ago, in box. Old Mitchell Spidercast spinning reel, and an old Shimano Spinning reel each about 15 years old. The rods are mostly Ugly Sticks spinning and casting, and an old Daiwa Orange fiberglass rod from the 80s that is in great condition. I was figuring maybe $20 per reel and $10 per rod? Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted February 21, 2012 Super User Posted February 21, 2012 THe trade is based on the purchase price of the new item. You can also only use one coupon per rod or reel purchased. The other thing, theyre on two separate weekends. Quote
Flukeman Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Like Hooligan said you can only trade in one reel for each reel purchased. They must be in good working condition because they will be donated to youth groups. The trade in value is determined by the price of the item you are buying, not by what you are trading. For example: Reel Price - 129.99 Sale Price - 109.97 Trade Coupon - -$20 (the reel you want from $100 - 119.99 = $20 coupon, $75 - $99.99 = $15 coupon etc.) It sounds like you would be better off keeping your reels and finding some Zebco 202's. They also will have some cheap reels you can buy to trade in as well ($5 - $10). This way a kid gets a brand new reel and you can still save a chunk of change on the more expensive reels. The rod trade in works in the same manner. Quote
Ern Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 No Joke. If you just want rid of the reels Im sure you could sale them in the classified here or run them on ebay. Doesnt matter what you trade in as long as it works. you get the same coupon for any reel. The discount is based on what you get. The mosre expensive the new rod the more you get off. Say Im nice and give you $20 for that Shimano CU200 Bantam Curado Greenie, you can then take and get three Zebco 202's to trade in for three coupons. Quote

Not good with the whole ebay thing, but if you want the greenie its yours for $20, just dont know how to do a payment swap. I did buy a 50E off ebay a couple of weeks ago, but I dont have a paypal account. Trying to get rid of stuff I dont use, and would rather a kid be able to use them than junk them. I didnt know it was a 1:1 ratio on the trade in. Thanks Quote
Aluma-Bass Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 is shimano participating in the reel trade in this year? Quote
bowfish12 Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 is shimano participating in the reel trade in this year? I didn't read anywhere on the flyer that said otherwise (along with Daiwa). I would assume yes. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted February 21, 2012 Super User Posted February 21, 2012 Yes, for the first time ever, both Daiwa and Shimano are participating in the trade in, on both rods and reels. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 22, 2012 Super User Posted February 22, 2012 In Ft Lauderdale, reel trade in 2/24-2/29, rods 3/2-3/6. Quote
piscicidal Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 I just came back from Ft Lauderdale BPS...traded in an old spinning reel for a new Chronarch 50E. $129 after 30$ reel trade in, $30 Shimano rebate and $10 BPS bonus bucks. I'm pretty happy with the purchase. Can't wait for the rod trade in. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted February 25, 2012 Super User Posted February 25, 2012 x2 on the Chronarch 50e... couldn't pass up that deal. However, a new Citica for $75 might be an even better deal. Quote
