Wildbillb Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Talked to the insurance company today about a boat. They want to know the value of the boat, motor and trailer separately. Is this standard practice? This is the company that I have my home owners through. What would be the value of each separately on a 2012 Tracker Pro Team 190x with the 115 Mercury Optimax? Thanks PS Have not purchased the boat. Only thinking about it. Want to know what insurance would run first. Quote
GrundleLove Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 7,500 (ish) for the optimax 10,500 for the Tracker that would be what i would say....you could always call BPS (im assuming that is where you got it and also congrats thats one sweet ride, love trackers) Quote
Wildbillb Posted February 21, 2012 Author Posted February 21, 2012 Have not bought the boat yet. Quote
zip pow Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Yes it is I also put coverage on my contents most companies will only put half the value of the boat on the contents for example 20000$ boat 10000$ contents Quote
Super User slonezp Posted February 21, 2012 Super User Posted February 21, 2012 Yes it's normal practice. Don't forget you'll also want to have the electronics insured as well as a $ amount on the gear in the boat. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted February 21, 2012 Super User Posted February 21, 2012 Boat Owners insurance is very inexpensive. I pay $216 a year for complete coverage, including $100K in liability. I initially insured my boat through my homeowners insurance, but soon realized that my agent didn't have a clue. Most insurance companies only key on insuring the boat, motor and trailer. But, what about the contents? Are your rods, reels, trolling motor and electronics covered? For the above reasons I switched my coverage to Worldwide Marine Underwriters. They know what boaters need. The guy I initially talked to was Bob Luellen. He was VERY thorough with his questions. Unfortunately, I no longer have Bob's phone number, but you can contact Worldwide Marine at 1-800-339-1235. 1 Quote
Wildbillb Posted February 21, 2012 Author Posted February 21, 2012 You guys rock. I didnt even think of that stuff. Now I have even more questions for my agent. Thanks Quote
Brian Needham Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 normal practice.........ask the salesman to break down the "3 prices", BPS deals enough to know what you need. I bought my boat from BPS (used avalanche for 15 K) prices were around..... boat 6k, motor 7500, trailer trailer 1500. I have progressive insurance, $40 bucks a month, when I totaled my trailer they cut me a check for 3K. (replacement value) only real advice I can give.....GET A MARINE POLICY! Quote

Brian Needham Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 slone, lots of people people have told me that is was high......and it maybe, but it was worth it when they cut that check for the trailer. $250 deductable I need to REALLY read my policy to see what all is covered and how much. Quote
