I will be doing alot of fishing in a reservoir and I was wondering what would be the best lure to cast right offshore? Need some ideas here, I have only used worms so far and they work ok but only got smaller fish. What else??

Gonna need some more info than that! What kind of cover (trees, weeds, shade, rocks, etc...) and structure (depth changes, contours, etc..) are we talking about?

Depth I would say anywhere from 1ft out to 5 ft. There are some trees for cover but no big rocks or anything. Just casting right off the shore of the reservoir hoping to snag something. Just looking for any advice. Thanks!

Here's how I approach a situation like this - when you say reservoir everybody will think you're fishing from a boat in 20-30 feet of water (at least I do). Since that's not the case and I assume you wouldn't be asking about shore fishing if you had access to a boat I would fish your bank like a pond bank. Look for the most likely cover you can find. Reservoirs are full of ledges and if you can cast to one then great but I doubt you'll reach one from shore. Look for laydowns and brush/weeds. Call the reservoir's dam and find out when they're gonna be pulling water. You'll definitely notice a difference in the bite when the water is pulling. That being said there really is no wrong bait to throw. Start with your favorite water covering lure (for me it's a buzzbait or crankbait) then slow down in that area with a big 10 inch worm in the summertime and senkos in winter fished weightless. Hope this helps
