mas3 Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Hello Everyone Was hoping to get a few pointers on learnig how to c-rig. I live up North and fish a weedy lake with a 20 and 30 ft section. Bass seem to be holding to the bottom. Been doing well with 10" worm fished real slow. This week thought Id try c-rig. I have a 7'6" MH flippin stick I have rigged up. 1/2 oz bullet-bead-2.5'leader-10"worm. Any help would be appreciated thanks M Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted September 10, 2009 Super User Posted September 10, 2009 hopefully you will get some responses as I have never caught a fish on a c-rig. I know it is my fault as I lack the confidence to stick with it. I may have to do what I did with crankbaits last year. Leave everything but c-rigs at home. Quote
aarogb Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Sounds like you got everything down pat setup wise. Now, the way I like to retrieve is slowly dragging or hopping the bait all the way back to the boat and repeat. Quote

hookset Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 I would experiment with heavier weights, especially if there is vegatation on the bottom. A heavier weight should give you more feedback since you are using such a heavy power rod. Quote
EastTexasBassin Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Yeah, I would up the weight to a 3/4 ounce to start out. It will make it easier to feel whats going on with the bottom. I usually let the wind decide how heavy the weight on my c-rig is. Use whatever weight is necessary to maintain bottom contact and have a good feel of the bottom. Quote
kikstand454 Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 well i fish a crig a whole lot and catch a mess of fish on it on lake seminole here in fla. you got the right set up though you may want to try a 3/4oz as mentioned. lizards and worms and craws work well but dont be afraid to use just about anything. i typically drag mine with the rod a few feet at a time to get the feel of the bottom and find some trash and then work the area with a hopping retrieve too. good luck ! mas3 Posted September 19, 2009 Author Posted September 19, 2009 Thanks I will try it. Fishing has really slowed down in Michigan Quote
lsmith500 Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Try the Recoil Rig by Secret Weapon, especially with the C-Rig. Just run the main line through the line lock and then the bead, tie on your swivel as usual from there, double up the spectastic fiber and use a 1/2 oz or 3/4 oz sinker. When you feel a peice of cover, stop and shake your rod a few time to put some action in the bait. This technique is all I use C-Rigging now, it works Great!! Good Luck! Lee Quote
Lobster Monster Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 I've actually never used a carolina rig. I've learned most of my bass fishing from my uncle and father who've been fishing in Central Florida their whole lives. I pretty much learned everything that worked for them and whatever I could find out online recently. Quote
