scrutch Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 I know the St. Croix AVC70MM is the newest version, I had one at one time. I just bought a mint condition AC70MM for what I thought was a great price. What I'm not real clear on is the actual difference between the two rods. Also, what do you think is a good price for a mint used AC70MM? Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted February 19, 2012 Super User Posted February 19, 2012 As I understand it, the AC models are the older ones without IPC (Integrated Poly Curve) technology. The AVC models have IPC and a slightly different finish, as well as a slightly higher price point Not certain on price, though I believe the going rate used to be $90-$120 new... -T9 Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted February 19, 2012 Super User Posted February 19, 2012 If it was what you wanted....it was a good deal at the price you paid! If it is not what you wanted, then it might be a good deal for you to sell it to me! Jeff 1 Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted February 19, 2012 Super User Posted February 19, 2012 Another, and primary difference on a crank stick, is the guides. The older guides were Fuji Aluminum Oxide, the new guides are Alconite Concepts. The Older rods use a different reel seat, as well, the newer series use Fuji SKM and DPS reel seats. I'm also near certain that the new rods use a double coat of flex coat versus one coat finish on the older rod. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted February 19, 2012 Super User Posted February 19, 2012 I owned an AC70MHF that broke and St Croix replaced it with an AVC70MHF. Reel seats were the same handles were the same, guides were the same. The AVC has the IPC blank, the AC did not. And the AVC has a glossy finish, the AC was a matte finish. Personaly I have never paid more nor would pay more than $120 for a used Avid. Quote

The guides aren't either, as stated previously. The new rods use the Alconite Concept guides. Quote

I am not going to argue with you, but, according to the St Croix, and my memory your wrong, at least when compairing the two rods I had. Both rods had Fuji ECS reel seats , and Alconite guides. I save the tags from all my rods, and just looked. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted February 19, 2012 Super User Posted February 19, 2012 They did have the ECS reel seat, I'll give you that. There's two seats in the casting rods. ECS and TPS. On the others, we'll have to agree to disagree. Quote
