StephenM Posted April 1, 2020 Posted April 1, 2020 Is the Neshoba pond the one at Neshoba and Riverdale area? Quote
C4Dave Posted April 22, 2020 Posted April 22, 2020 What do you consider a hotspot? And what are you after? I know this is a bass fishing forum, but around Memphis there are fantastic catfishing opportunities. The Mississippi River has crazy opportunities (and dangers). My PB on the Big Muddy is an 80 pound Blue Cat. And I hooked one much bigger once. Kinda makes bass fishing seem like an entertaining side attraction. Quote

Thenemoear Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 Hey guys. Just joined the site. I'm in collierville. Tired of herb parsons fishing from the shore. I have a 1436 Jon I'm working on but its not water ready yet. Was thinking about going to this creek spot off of col-arlington a mile or two north of town. Not sure if its considered wolf river or Johnson creek. Anybody ever been there? I see a downed tree from the rd when I drive by in the water right by the access. Looks like it could be alright Quote
Thenemoear Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 Well, after reading this entire thread, I went to Halle Park. Caught what would have been a PB by a lot(though that wouldn't be difficult) and as soon as I got it to the bank and went to pull it out, my line (8lb test Ande) snapped. A few mins later I saw what I believe to be the same fish, jumping and thrashing in the middle of the pond, trying to get the hook out. Does Ande line just suck or do I need to up the test? I'm pretty upset. Not about losing the fish as much as I don't want the fish to die for no good reason, but there isn't much I could do.  BTW, for inquiring minds, I was using a rage tail rage craw 4" coffee scented on an owner brand shaky head 1/4oz.  I also lost my Bluetooth headphones in the water at this time, which happen to be waterproof. So as the fish was getting away, it was listening to Joe Rogan and Elon Musk. Maybe it's smarter for it ?? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 11, 2020 Super User Posted May 11, 2020 The biggest bassI know of on that pond was 11.98 lbs. The fish that got away will be just fine. Â Â Â Quote
TheFishingMusician Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 New to the forum. Been fishing for about a month; hadn't been fishing since I was 11 or so, and we had a company lake day at a private lake owned by a customer who let us use it(carpenters). I got caught in the trees twice on the first two casts and got laughed at a lot... and then ended up catching more fish than anyone combined, all bream and bass though we threw the bass back. 20$ rod, and now I've been hooked. Sunk about 100$ into it so far which is a decent chunk for me  I've found a few good places to catch, but never anything bigger than a pound outside of that private lake aside from this gar I got at a lil creek. Would be great to get some tips considering I know so little about the craft next time someone heads out. As said, fishing is a great social distancing activity and it gives me a good excuse to hike as well. The best places are always where other people don't want to/too lazy to get to I've found hehe, and thankfully I figured out I'm pretty resistant to poison ivy. All CnR so far but not against taking fish either, just wouldn't want to eat out of my best spot as its a waterway connected to a drainage ditch. I'll start posting my local trips on here as well, hope to see some folks out there and pick up some learnin. Quote
TheFishingMusician Posted May 16, 2020 Posted May 16, 2020 Caught five at a residential lake in Bartlett a friend recommended; her pa lives out there so we had people to vouch for us as guests otherwise I'd recommend more people to go out there.  Gonna check out some lakes/ponds along Humphreys blvd today as well as hit up the more remote smaller lakes in Shelby Farms. I was getting nibbles out of Pine Lake but the fish seemed really small. Some spots I've checked out, hopefully it's not gone over 1000 times but I figure people want updates on spots nonetheless:  1. Herb Parsons We all know about this, we've all fished it, and it's booming again which is bad news for us in terms of nibbles. Way too many folks and honestly a bit dodgy in the time of Covid imo, still a fun place to hang and it's clean but not much in the way of fish unless you're really skilled  2. Neshoba Once again a common spot mentioned here. I saw a TON of fish in the water, but they weren't biting. This was about two weeks ago. Saw a decent sized gar near the shore, but I couldn't even get nibbles here.  3. Davies Plantation I actually had a lot of luck here, just nothing of size. I figure I'll keep popping back over the coming months. There are supposed to be catfish, but all I caught were bream and small bass. I've fished there at night as well but luck wasn't any better in regards to catfish, HOWEVER I did see some near the rocky side in the shallows, so they are definitely in there.  There's also a spot behind the area where I work around Nonconnah creek. There are too many sandbars to take any kind of motorized boat, and there is an intense amount of foliage but I've had luck in that area. Goes without saying you wouldn't want to keep anything out of here even if you wanted to. Quote
StephenM Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 Herb Parsons has been hit hard this spring but it’s a good lake! Me and the father n law had twin 5lb females spawned out in the same day about a month ago. My PB so far. Caught her on a Strike King Ocho worm in the Ochokobee Craw color. Quote
TheFishingMusician Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 https://ibb.co/MpRCgKw Caught this lil fella (or shella) at Beaver Lake at Shelby Farms yesterday. Got some other good nibbles as well, it seems to have a pretty decent population and is the second time I've been. Took around an hour, was fishing two rods, one with bobber and worm since I was in a small cove I had seen a lot of activity at the previous time I was there. The other was the crank bait you see(this is my lucky one), got nothing with the worm and bobber. It's pretty overgrown once you start around the left side, and gets overgrown about a quarter way around on the right side aka not a lot of lazy fishermen aka better spot to fish. Caught a little fish with the crank bait at Hyde Lake as well on Monday. Â I was checking out a lake northwards in Bartlett that was pretty sizable, start pulling towards the end of the turdball road and realize I've been there before and I'm friends with the guy who owns it, he's a fellow musician. He tells me what bait to use and some good spots, so hopefully I'll have a good report out of there soon, he said some monsters have been pulled from it. I only had a few nibbles there today, there are tons of turtles which isn't the best omen but better than the snakes I usually tangle with and it's deserted enough to bring the dog since he's a maniac and won't leave anything that moves alone. Zachbass11 Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 Whats up guys, new to the forum. Seems like neshoba/ grove park and collerville civic center are the most talked about places. Trying to find the quality fish not the numbers. Fished grove park today without a bite. Was throwing a chatterbait and rattle trap  Quote

Anthony Troxel Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 Just trying to get started fishing locally as I have a 5 and 7 year old to teach :) So far we have only found small bream and one 10-12" catfish. I would like to find some bass and trout if possible. I have had great success trout fishing in Arkansas with friends and on charters for Redfish, Speckled Trout and even Leopard Sharks, but mostly a novice who is willing to learn.  Nashoba Park / Chickfila Pond -  We have fished the Southwest side of this pond a few times with wax worms and bobbers. We usually catch an okay number of small bream, but would like to find bass. Are there really gar in there too!? I have tried afew cast with top water lures, but no success yet. Is there a better spot or any tips? We only catch and release as half my family is allergic to all seafood.  Jones Pond at Shelby Farms - Tried it out yesterday. My youngest caught one good sized catfish on a gulp and wax worm with bobber around 9:30am. Any tips for catching trout?  Also tried Cameron Brown with same setup and same results of small bream.  All in all, here to learn and would like to get into bass fishing locally in general. Thanks! Thenemoear Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 I have better luck at Halle Park for bass than pretty much anywhere else around here, but that's just me. I usually catch at least 2-3 while I go in the morning for a couple of hours. Lots of decent sized bass in there. You just have to be patient which is hard with kids sometimes. I usually do well with crawfish colored squarebill crankbaits there. Also rage tail crawfish on a shaky head. That works well too.  At johnson park the 3 ponds by the west entrance are good too. I fish the middle one usually, but they are all 3 connected. My boy is 5 and he caught is first bass there on his own about 3 weeks ago on his spinning setup. I catch 2-4lb bass in there about every time I go, on a neon yellow/black Square bill crank. They also seem to like popper frogs if the crank isnt workin.  The big pond in the back off the trail there I havent caught any bass. Ive used just about every trick I could think of or read about on here. I have seen them, can't catch them though for some reason. HOWEVER, if you just want your boys to have fun fighting some fish, that pond is loaded with bowfin. I caught 6 decent sized ones today, along with 2 good eating sized blue cats and a flathead. Plus its just a fun spot. I always go to the sand-bed.  If you ever see a bald guy with an army backpack and wayyyy to much tackle/rods at these places, its probably me ??. 1 Quote
Anthony Troxel Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 Thanks! I would prefer to catch bass and trout, but the boys will enjoy catching anything. I had to look up bowfish and they sound like they would be fun to catch. I have a hook removal tool that sounds like it might be needed for them too! For clarification, which number lake is the one with bowfish? Quote
StephenM Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 We fished Casper Lake in Millington at Orgill Golf Course yesterday and had a 4-5lb bass. Quote
Thenemoear Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 (edited) None of those ponds, actually. The pond with the bowfin is north of the ponds marked 1 2 and 3, and is bigger than any of them   Edited June 13, 2020 by Thenemoear 1 Quote
Zachbass11 Posted July 6, 2020 Posted July 6, 2020 Dont let the heat keep yall away from the ponds! Jigs and texas rigs are doing the trick for me 1 Quote
Cmiles Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Hi everyone, I’m new here, already learned so much by reading this thread. Caught this at the grove on Saturday but was in a hurry to get him back in the water and I forgot to weigh.  Any estimates on weight?  Quote

Capriceragtop Posted January 6, 2021 Posted January 6, 2021 Do you folks have much luck in the milder/colder weather? I've always just fished in the warm months, but I've been missing wetting a hook. Work is ramping up, and it'd be nice to have a few hours away from the phone. Â I've been trying the Collierville City Hall pond, and Shelby Forest if I have a ton of time. Anyone know any holes near Olive Branch? Quote
