I think I am done with Grove until Fall. I don’t think I’ll ever figure it out. Went this afternoon between 6 and 7, and nothing going on. Even back in the corner with all the tree overhangs, which looks pretty tasty.

Caught two out of Johnson Rd Park(lower). Both small, not sure if there’s any decent fish in there, but it’s been pretty reliable the 3 times I’ve been.

Nothing doing at City Hall between between 7 and 8. Seems my only luck there comes in the morning. If Chris posts or reads here, it was nice meeting and talking to you for a bit.

Giving Johnson a break for a while. Gonna go try to find some new waters to explore tomorrow.

I feel like it's getting later on in the season and these pond fish see an insane amount of pressure.  Tons of natural food is also available as I see tons of minnows in these ponds now.  Might be time to change tactics and try and find an approach that is not as common.  Drops hot maybe?

Just fished the Grove for the first time today. Almost got skunked but managed to hook the tiniest bream on a small popper. Used a fluke too but only managed a couple of missed fish.  What do you all use to catch bass there?  I have  both a bait caster and light spinning gear. Still learning the baitcaster and can’t seem to manage long casts yet. Relatively new to freshwater fishing so any advice is appreciated.

So, I've just made a huge upgrade to my fishing arsenal:

A kayak!

So, I've broken it in a couple times on a private lake i fish, but i'm wondering if anyone knows what local public spots are kayak-friendly??

I’ve caught fish on just about everything in there. And I’ve fished every inch of the bank that’s easily accessible. However, I get skunked more often than not—so I rarely go there anymore. Next time I go will be when the Fall bite is on.

Baitcasting takes a bit of practice and familiarity with your reel and lure choices, when I started I couldn’t manage long casts. Every time you tie on a new lure, crank the tension up and the brake all the way down. Reel the lure up to about 5 inches from the rod tip and press the button on the reel. Loosen the tension so it’s not falling fast, but not slow either. Turn your brake to half and adjust accordingly.

Thanks WDE. Went to Halle this afternoon and caught about a two pounder on a jig with the bait caster. Fun catching fish with it as it feels more powerful than the spinning setup I have.  Still not casting that far. It’s amazing to see others seem to cast a mile. I guess I just need more practice. I’ll be out again Sunday.

Midday bite is gone as far as I’m concerned. Only time to hit it is in the morning lately for me. Nailed these 7 this morning on a t rigged black/blue and junebug Dinger in about 2.5 hours.

That’s a pretty good bag you got there! I bet that was at a private pond right?

Correct. With the way the bite has been lately, I’ve been avoiding the usual pressured ponds.

New to the board and Germantown looking for public places to fish in the Memphis area.

I didn't go through all 49 pages but compiled a list of ponds mentioned below.

Neshoba Park

Grove Park

Glen Springs

Daycare Pond

Collierville City Hall Pond

Johnson Park Lower Lake

Church house Pond

Shelby Farms Lake

Herb Parsons Lake

Are there any additional ponds in the greater Memphis area that I can add to the fishing list? I'm also not sure as to the location of Daycare Pond and Church House pond. Which of the locations above are producing good fish?

A bit of info I can bring, I live in Germantown Station and recently took over the Park Services in our HOA and am working to have the pond re-stocked. Currently has only bass and bream with both populations being heavily pressured.

That covers most of them. You could add Patriot and Beaver Lakes at Shelby farms.

WC Johnson Park has 6 ponds with fish in it. I believe the “Johnson Park” you’re referring to is Johnson Rd Park, which does have an upper and lower pond.

Daycare is near the corner of Houston Levee and Shea Rd. Park in the day care parking lot. I’ve had some success there in the mornings on a Whopper Plopper. Prior to figuring that out, I had never gotten a bite there in the afternoons.

I've been slacking lately hitting the water. I shall be back out there soon.

I did check out Mayor Lake and Chickasaw at Shelby Farms a while back. Spotted a few bass in both but Chickasaw is a huge body of water to take on, on feet.

@WDE which lake is your favorite at Shelby Farms?

Looking to catch some nice bass and bream.

I haven’t spent much time there to be honest; but Beaver Lake looks promising. I’m going to wait until the snake threat dies off to go stomping around the back side with the woods. It’s pretty big. There was a lot of moss/algae along the bottom, but it may have died off or calmed down by now.

Patriot Lake is also pretty huge, without a kayak or some other boat, I’ll probably never try bank fishing there.

I worked half way around Halle park tonight with frogs, beatle spins, worms and christie crawlers and completely struck out. Couple hits right when I got there(19:00) on blue/black 7 inch worm but was likely a brim.

Snott grass thick as usual.

I have never personally done good there (not saying much) but it seems others pull in lunkers.

Anyone had any recent success there?

I have had cool weather success tossing t-rigged rage craws at the furthest light pole from the day care near the road as well. Daycare pond is another snott grass semi shallow pond but has mature bass in it. Zero shade so the tactics are different.

I’ve been whacking them at the neighborhood pond I was cleared to use. Couple hours in the morning a few days a week. Haven’t gotten anything of size lately though.

Waiting for the Fall weather to roll in so I can spend a little more time out bouncing around ponds.
