WDE Posted May 5, 2017 Posted May 5, 2017 Quiet around here lately. I've only had two days so far this week to get out. Caught this one yesterday. 2.5ish pounds. Swallowed the crankbait sideways and got lodged in the gills. Finally got the lure out after a hectic few minutes--he was still flopping around, snapped the quick pic and released. Much to my surprise, he had no issue re-entering the water. No circling around or going side up, swam away with vigor. Went back out today in this "great" weather. Couple bites, no fish landed. Didn't see this fish's corpse so I'm assuming he'll be good to go. Quote
wdp Posted May 5, 2017 Posted May 5, 2017 I haven't been much lately. And the few times I've been I haven't caught anything noteworthy. Just a few dinks. Quote
Oldredneck Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 Went out to the Grove today didnt have any luck what lures should i use on those stained waters? Quote
Super User RoLo Posted May 6, 2017 Super User Posted May 6, 2017 I used to be a descent 'Pond Hopper' but lately it seems I've lost the razor's edge Roger 1 Quote
BrushHog1906 Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 I just pulled in here at Grove. I will let y'all know how it goes! Quote
WDE Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 FYI, Johnson-fountains is closed until some time Saturday for a kids fishing rodeo. Went to the Grove yesterday instead. Couple bites and a sub-pound LMB. Quote
wwood Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 I went out for a little while on Wednesday at a small pond in Germantown and caught 5 bass - 2 on Texas rigged senkos and 3 on soft plastic swimbaits with a weighted 3/0 ewg. Nothing too big but it still made for a fun afternoon Quote
Ndq1124 Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 Whats up everyone. Does anyone know about the waters next to and behind Halley Park pond if you are looking at it from google maps. I've only fished Halley Park once so I can't remember if those other ponds are fishable. Also has anyone fished the lake behind Lowes on GTown Pkwy and is it possible to walk around it cause there are some smaller ponds behind it according to google earth. Thanks to anyone who can help me out. Quote

Can't answer your question about Lowe's in Gtown. Quote
kwd1987 Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 Gave it hell yesterday at Grove park and only caught a baby bass. Anyone have success elsewhere? Quote
WDE Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 This one caught me totally by surprise. Kept feeling him hit it, and thought I was just hitting a branch underwater. Johnson-fountains. 1 Quote
Skutr Posted May 22, 2017 Posted May 22, 2017 Pulled this out of the CC today.. Guess he wanted my chatterbait. 1 Quote
Mr. Ranger Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 I've tried finding some new spots here lately, only to strike out. International Harvesters in Lakeland continues to disappoint. Next i'm trying Orgil Park in Millington area. Anyone fished out there? Quote

Do ok sometimes and crap others. Best in some type of craft like a yak or canoe 1 Quote

Hawkeye1975 Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 Hey all, I caught what I think is a spotted gar last night... This look right? It snapped my line (fishing for bass, texas rig pitboss) right when I landed him, then flipped and flopped, snapped a pic but could not get him in time to measure and weigh. But I reckon he's close to 35inches, 8-9lbs... Also pics of a couple nice largemouth I caught in the last week, same place, with texas rigged power worm or pitboss. 2 Quote
WDE Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 I'm about ready for late Summer, early Fall to kick in and start driving these water temps back down. The bite has been rough for me lately. That's not to say I haven't been catching anything, but the size has dropped considerably. I'm being forced to slow way down off the cranks and switch over to Senkos, which I really don't prefer. I'm seeing them cruising and holding up right on the bank, but their interest level is low--almost lethargic. Caught this one Monday(plus a few others) in Gtown on a watermelon Senko, and is the largest I've caught in about three weeks. 2+ range, 2.5 if I'm being generous. He was fun to bring in though, I was watching a giant school of shad/minnows moving around right in this little "narrow" cut and I kept tossing the Senko all around and inside the school. Jumped out of the water a couple times for dramatic effect, but I had him hooked squarely in the corner of his mouth. I will say, re: Senkos, that it's a whole lot of fun landing them on my med/fast action spinning rod. It's nice to feel that bump and watch the line start to run, then getting a solid hookset. Requires a bit more patience than the trebles on my preferred cranks. 1 Quote

Not sure if you've made it there to fish yet or not but I lived there in millington for for a short time early this year (March-May) the fishing wasn't great at all from the bank. The pond next to the Orgill Lake actually has some okay sized ones in it- had decent luck there. As far as the lake goes i never had much luck bank fishing there- never got to fish on a boat there. I've heard the bass like to hang out on be far side of the lake next to all the rock. Tough to throw a crank there though because of all the sticks and algae. I never caught anything over 3lbs at the lake or the pond yher though. Needless to say the fishing wasn't great there pre spawn this year but I wouldn't shy away from giving it a go! If you do let me know how it goes! Quote
Shlacker Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Hey guys!!! I'm new here. I just started driving, so I can fish other places now. What places can I fish for bass in Tipton county and surrounding areas?? Quote
coloradofire Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Went to the dog park ponds in Shelby Farms Saturday. Caught 4. One on a Green Pumpkin baby brush hot on a shakey head and the rest on a blk and blue craw texas rig. Also found a Sexy Shad Super Spook walking the bank hooks were rusted off but the split rings were S/S so they were still good and it cleaned up nice with a brillo pad looks barely used now. 1 Quote
WDE Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Johnson-fountains is rough lately(again). Hooked up on a decent 2lb yesterday only to have him spit the lure right at the bank. Front ponds are pretty much useless to me(again). They finally lifted the grate allowing passage from the front to the middle pond, by the way. I walked back into the woods behind the fountains today and found some breaks in the tree line just wide enough to toss a Senko under tree limbs. This little one hit it a couple times before he finally decided he wanted it. Small, but surpringly fat(relatively speaking). I was a bit shocked at the size of the scar on his belly considering his size, seems a scar that big would be a death wound for a fish that size. Ah well. Back to it tomorrow afternoon. Does anyone know if the pond way back past the front ponds is overgrown? I might wander down there and toss a jig around if there's still a path down to the water. Quote
