Super User 00 mod Posted October 14, 2015 Super User Posted October 14, 2015 Vic, I would be more than happy to dump my little boat in and we can investigate that lake, if boats are allowed! Jeff Quote
Vicdougle Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Sounds good to me. Trolling motor only. When and how long would you wanna go? Quote
Basstracker 95 Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Hey guys, I know I haven't posted anything in a while but haven't really been fishing many ponds lately. I do have a question that I wanted to bring up about bass in general. I have been off this week so I got the change to fish Carroll County Lake and Lake Graham in Jackson. I decided to keep some fish and have a little fish fry for the family. I was surprise to find out of the roughly 20 or so fish I cleaned, several of them were full of eggs. This was true of fish from both lakes. How common is this? Do some bass spawn in the fall? I have read that this happens occasionally? Was wondering if anyone knows more about this? Just curious. Vicdougle Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Soooooooo, I'm looking for a lightweight portable boat. Anyone have any suggestions on ones they like and more importantly, which ones to avoid and why? Please let me know how long you've had it, pros and cons etc... I think the Ultraskiff is kind of the ultimate personal watercraft but I like the idea of having something I can fish in with a buddy. Thanks in advance for the replies. __________________ This belongs in the "Boat" section. -Kent Quote

Dangerous_Bacon Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Just want to say hello...Been lurking for a while and decided to join. I live in Harbor Town, but try to fish all over as much as I can. No boat, so I am bank bound. Have fished Glen Springs( caught a few),Orgill( whole bunch of small fish) as well as Shelby Forrest... Grew up in G'town and I cannot find any of these places ya'll are talking about. Full disclosure: I am the most directionally challenged human in North America so that doesn't help too much...LOL Also RW, swing by the banquet department at The Pyramid and say hello...ask for Scott... Basstracker 95 Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Fished Civic Center and Neshoba this morning. Between the 2 only picked up 1 small one. Seems like the ponds have been tough lately. Anybody having any luck? Quote
Mr. Ranger Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 I fished a pond at a park in Bartlett near Davies Plantation. No bites but I figured I wasnt doing something right. Talked to one of the homeowners on the lake, and they said that Bass were in there, but more people caught catfish and bluegill. Water was low and the shoreline is well groomed, so nothing was laying down for the fish to sit under. Just some mud flat banks. Going to try a texas rig next time I go. Anyone ever fished that pond? I've fished that pond twice earlier this year and didn't get a bite either time. However, didn't really fish it very hard or very long. If you have any luck there let me know! good luck Quote

That pond looks great, but it was recently converted to a Bartlett park. During the construction of the walking path, etc., they drained the lake according to Bartlett parks and rec., I think this was done in 2012-13 or so.... Basically, it is full of dinks, tiny bass, bream and crappie - throw a trout magnet in there and catch all you want. It will probably get better in a few years, but I found it so tough for bass after a couple of trips this summer that I actually called in to check with the parks and rec. office to see if there had been a fish kill there, that's when I found out about the draining. And yes, there is a bad siltation problem there too, I'm not sure whether it will fish very well from the bank even after it has had more time for the fish to grow. It's just an old farm pond, and they usually silt in eventually, but if you look at it on Google Earth and go back a few years to when Bartlett Parks was working on it, you can see that they really had the shoreline stripped down to dirt for a while...I think a lot of the silt issues came from their improvements. Hope I save you some time, I had high hopes for that pond this past summer myself Quote

MFBAB Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 I know! I was pretty excited about finding it this year. It's been there a long time but just recently became public so I figured it wasn't getting too much pressure yet It has everything you want on paper, but I really think it got screwed up pretty badly when they were doing the park improvements. Do you know of any other lakes or ponds in the same area? Thats about 5 minutes from my house, and I don't get the opportunity to get out that often. Proximity is key... Quote

MFBAB Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 The closest 2 park ponds I know from there would be the Bartlett Park on N Appling, called Appling Lake I think, and the International Harvester Park in Lakeland, on WS of Canada Rd up near the intersection with Hwy 70. As Wiz said, Google maps is a good resource. Quote
Mr. Ranger Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Google Maps Let me EDIT my question: Do you know of any other GOOD FISHING lakes or ponds in the same area? You can search google maps for blue areas all day long and still not know what is fishable. Quote

FishWitWiz Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Anybody Memphis Pond Hoppers catching anything in the ponds? I haven't fished any freshwater since before my son was born in mid-September (been a little busy) and this week seems like about the right time. If you are, what are you catching them on? Quote
