Super User 00 mod Posted September 17, 2014 Super User Posted September 17, 2014 P.S. Kent, I have a picture of you holding your big ole' bass (8 lbs?), wasn't sure if you got a good one or not, but I'd be happy to either post it or send it to you. I think that fish is the same bass that was caught and weighed last month. The claim is 9 1/2 lbs. I will send you my contact info in a PM. Thank you! Post it up! http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/143924-how-to-post-a-picture-pics/ Jeff Quote

FishWitWiz Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Nice fish! You wearing your golf shoes? Is your secret to fool the fish to think you're golfing and not fishing? 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 19, 2014 Super User Posted September 19, 2014 When the water is high, like it is now, there is no flat bank to walk and the slope on the east side of the pond is steep. I don't golf anymore, but the shoes and spikes provide a lot of traction. Quote
JDJ Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 And by fishing in his golfing spikes, Roadwarrior aerates the banks to keep our local ponds looking good!! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 21, 2014 Super User Posted September 21, 2014 One bite, one fish. Last spring I caught this fish twice in three days. A week later I was fishing close to another Memphis Pond Hopper who hooked-up with this monster. I ran over to help him with a picture, but I don't think he ever posted it here. At any rate, the fish was officiallly weighed at 7 1/2 lbs. This morning I didn't have a bite. I drove back to the pond around 11:00 armed with my MBR844C/ Calcutta CTE100GT/ Tatsu #20 and rigged with a 7" Senko (green pumpkin/ black flakes), traditional rigging. Nothing for an hour, so last cast at noon, 12:00 straight up. Great fight, three jumps, clean landing and safe release. Now I'm ready for some football! Quote
FishWitWiz Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Man, the fish were hating me this week... Was down in NW Florida and managed to pick the only day of the week that the redfish weren't biting. Fished Daycare on Saturday and Sunday for about 2 hours each... caught one 1.5 pounder on Saturday and got nothing on Sunday. Noticed there is something up underwater on the Southeast area of the pond. Wondering if there's a leak in the nearby sewage pipe. Dovetailing from that horrible thought, there continue to be people taking home every single fish that they catch out of that pond. Saw a guy take one, and another guy said he and his brother took 6 on Friday. Dumb. Quote
FishWitWiz Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 One 2 pounder at Daycare on Saturday morning on a swimbait. Couldn't get anything on my usual trusty green pumpkin or black senko, but as soon as I switched to a Lake Fork Magic Shad he was on it. Struck out at Lowe's on Sunday morning, then got another 2 pounder at "Mulch Pond" on a senko. Saw a wake where he was swimming, cast about a foot to the side of him and he nailed it. Haven't figured out out fall bassin' in Memphis ponds yet... need Roadwarrior to set me on the path. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 5, 2014 Super User Posted October 5, 2014 Her name is "Lucky". I caught her again yesterday full of baitfish and completely bloated. A couple of guys aked if she was a largemouth, she looked like a football Saturday! I wish everyone good luck, but even if you verify a DD and she is your PB, please release her. Don't "throw" her back in, but gently place her back in the water. 1 Quote

I verified mine and she is indeed my PB, but we've been together almost 15 years... not sure I want to release her. Kidding aside, good message here... At some of the ponds we have huge problems with conservation and sportsmanship, I'm glad to hear you've caught Lucky a few times now. That alone says to me that some people "get it." 1 Quote
JDJ Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 No takers for me at Grove today. Tried Bug, Senko and jig & craw. One guy landed a HUGE cat on live bait. He also pulled out a small crappie on a jig. So where are the Lowes and Mulch ponds? Is the Mulch Pond at Shelby Farms? Quote
FishWitWiz Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 So where are the Lowes and Mulch ponds? Is the Mulch Pond at Shelby Farms? It's behind the Lowe's on Germantown Parkway. If you're facing at the store from the parking lot, on the left side of the building take that road to the back and you'll see it. It's part of the Wolf River Conservancy. Do not park on the dirt, there are significant erosion issues back there and though others do it, WRC asks that you park on asphalt. Lots of snakes too. Mulch Pond is the informal name for the pond at the south end of Farm Road right by the painball/laser tag place. It's directly behind Catch'em Lakes. Looking at a map, it's officially called Refuge Pond, but it's next to a whole bunch of enormous mulch piles and the whole time you're there, that's all you can smell. Loaded with water moccasins, so use caution. Quote

I hate snakes!" Quote
FishWitWiz Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Yes, Mulch is pretty shallow and it seems the water level varies a lot. I hear it is also loaded with catfish and a couple big gar, though I have not seen either. Quote

I hear it is also loaded with catfish and a couple big gar, though I have not seen either. I had my boat in there once. Its full of gar. Actually caught one of them. Also caught a 4.5lb bass. Believe we even saw a couple jumping carp. One went right over the bow of the boat. there are some deep holes out there. Saw a couple 15ft spots. Quote
FishWitWiz Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Ahhh... football season... the ponds were lonely this weekend. With everyone watching the games, I was tearin' it up at the Memphis ponds all by myself. Don't worry guys, I got it. 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted November 20, 2014 Super User Posted November 20, 2014 Caught my pet again today and she looked like she was about to burst! I'm sure going to be disappointed if anyone keeps her. Quote
JDJ Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 What did you catch her on this time Kent? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted November 20, 2014 Super User Posted November 20, 2014 Chatterbait, skirt removed/ Rage Tail Cut-R ticking the bottom. My theory is that the cold snap seriously impacted the shad population, making them easy prey. This fat girl was bloated! Quote
babyboycalvin Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 I'm from and in Memphis I'm 24yrs old im a beginner at fishing trying to get a good family value hobby for me and my 1yr old son to bond with are there any good places to learn how to fish I'm also open to tips and pointers plz help Quote
FishWitWiz Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Well guys, I did it... I couldn't take any more of watching YouTube fishing videos or thumbing through the BPS catalog. With the last two days' temps being warmer, I decided to hit the water this morning for about an hour and I was rewarded with a real nice 3 pounder that jumped and fought like a champion. About 10 minutes later, the cold wind kicked in pretty good, but it was definitely nice catching an early January LMB. C'mon warm weather!!! 1 Quote
