Capriceragtop Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 Hope y'all have fared better than I. Tried Grove Park today, Shelby Farms a few times, and down in Olive Branch. Skunkfest! At least it's warming up, so I strike out on pretty days. Quote
ColeGlover Posted September 4, 2021 Posted September 4, 2021 Hey guys , been years since I’ve been on this thread. Looking to take my toddler to a good bream pond. I know grove park used to have a ton of them. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 4, 2021 Super User Posted September 4, 2021 It still does. Quote
Capriceragtop Posted September 4, 2021 Posted September 4, 2021 Never could get a bass bite at Grove, no matter what I threw. Did see bream bedded up there, though. Quote

Got some other good nibbles as well, it seems to have a pretty decent population and is the second time I've been. Took around an hour, was fishing two rods, one with bobber and worm since I was in a small cove I had seen a lot of activity at the previous time I was there. The other was the crank bait you see(this is my lucky one), got nothing with the worm and bobber. It's pretty overgrown once you start around the left side, and gets overgrown about a quarter way around on the right side aka not a lot of lazy fishermen aka better spot to fish. Caught a little fish with the crank bait at Hyde Lake as well on Monday. I was checking out a lake northwards in Bartlett that was pretty sizable, start pulling towards the end of the turdball road and realize I've been there before and I'm friends with the guy who owns it, he's a fellow musician. He tells me what bait to use and some good spots, so hopefully I'll have a good report out of there soon, he said some monsters have been pulled from it. I only had a few nibbles there today, there are tons of turtles which isn't the best omen but better than the snakes I usually tangle with and it's deserted enough to bring the dog since he's a maniac and won't leave anything that moves alone. If you don’t mind me asking, what pond in Bartlett was this? I live near the Bartlett/Wolfchase area and been looking for some ponds to get a line wet in after I get off before I head to the gym at nights! Quote

Pond slammer Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 Hello all who are still here! I am fairly new to Memphis, and very new to fishing Memphis. I live in the Millington area. I used to live in the Charlotte NC area, so I did tons of fishing there. It was very easy and enjoyable. Now that I live here though. I have found that fishing is a major struggle. Particularly at ponds. In Carolina, it was easy because there were lots of ponds on undeveloped land, so you could just pull up and hike to them, and slam it. But here. I noticed that pond density isn't an issue, but the issue I have is that every little puddle around here is covered in no trespassing signs. So pond hopping for me has been religated to essentially fishing the few overfished spots that you can get to. Does anyone have any idea how to help with this. It would be much appreciated. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 19, 2022 Super User Posted May 19, 2022 There are many ponds to choose from. Germantown has at least 28. Type in "Ponds near Millington". Some specific ponds I fish closer to me are Neshoba, Grove and Halle Park. I would be glad to show you around. -Kent Quote

Not a pond but since you are new to the area, just north of you is a place called Cold Creek. There is a public boat ramp and when you enter the creek it is a short boat ride until you emerge unto the old river oxbow. The lake rises and falls with the river but does provide outstanding fishing at times. This lake is near Fort Pillow and is knows as "Cold Creek" but is actually and old oxbow of the Mississippi. I used to fish there as a kid when I was living in Memphis. Tons of Bluegill and Crappie. I'm sure it is loaded with Bass as well. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 11, 2022 Super User Posted June 11, 2022 14.58 lb largemouth reported out of Halle. 2 Quote
Capriceragtop Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 14.58?! Where on the lake? What lures were they using? I was out there from 11 until 130 with nothing to show for it. Glad someone had luck! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 12, 2022 Super User Posted June 12, 2022 The only other details that I heard were that the fish was weighed on certified scales at Kroger and the angler was a teenager. 1 Quote

It was too beastly for me today, but I did catch em yesterday while dialing in a new rod. Wanted a baitcaster setup for weightless Texas rig and other small, light things. Just right for crappie and bream, too. Quote
jfishing Posted June 13, 2022 Posted June 13, 2022 Never caught anything out of Grove Park but have talked to people that have caught nice fish out of there. Anyone have recommendations for lures to use? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 13, 2022 Super User Posted June 13, 2022 Spook and Sammy early. Rage Swimmer after that. Then a Structure Bug, Senko or Fat Ika. As the summer progresses, BIG worms: Rage 12" Thumper, 7" Senko and GYCB Kut-Tail. Quote

Birdnester Posted June 17, 2022 Posted June 17, 2022 Does anyone know other lakes that are accessible for bank fishing? I’ve been to Halle, Grove, Neshoba and Harvester in Lakeland. I’m open to drive about an hour from Collierville. Bass are what I typically target but any fish by rod is fun. Quote
Birdnester Posted June 17, 2022 Posted June 17, 2022 Hello Roadwarrior, nice to meet you at the Grove today! Thanks for the tips and the bait you gave me. I did catch a small bass with it though it wasn't as exciting as watching you catch one while we were chatting. Nice 2.3 pounder on my scale. Didn't believe there were bass there until you caught that one. Only heard stories... Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 19, 2022 Super User Posted June 19, 2022 A new PB for you is possible. This spring Grove has been on fire for me. Quote

I've been fishing in memphis for a few years now (native Memphian) and here is some of my experiences. Fished behind chickfila pond a couple days ago-had one small bass fishing that retaining wall with a 1/8 white spinner bait Fished the Audubon park pond (backs up to botanic gardens) about a week ago. Couple of tentative hits but no fish. I've fished this pond a lot, never really catch much but the bass/crappie I've pulled out have all been big. Anyone else ever fished here before? There's a pond in memphis (near Bartlett) off shelby oaks drive (behind baymont inn) that I fished once and caught a few. Used to live in Cordova-fished country squire apartments several times with little luck. Another apartment lake just north of wood chase dr and gtown pkway and had nothing. There is a couple of ponds off Macon in the woodland hills subdivision in Cordova (near Macon hall elem) that are not too bad. Pulled lots of small fish out there My wife and I recently bought a house in east memphis, so I'm open to suggestions to fish around here. Great threat btw! So the audubon park pond has bass? I went there last summer 2-3 times and didn't get a single hit Quote
Capriceragtop Posted May 7, 2023 Posted May 7, 2023 I've heard of monster cats in Audubon. Perhaps an old wives tale, but supposedly some 75lb cats in there. I've never had luck. Frequently too many folks when I go. Seems I've got to go out east to cville to fish. Maybe this is the year I can make a concerted effort to kayak fish. Quote
catchandrelease Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Hey Memphis Pond Hoppers! New member here, fished all the time as a kid but have recently gotten heavily back into it. I have lots of free time at the moment after work so I hit up some of the usual sports more or less every day (day care pond, Johnson Park, Shelby Farms), and on the weekend you can find me fishing almost all day. I love fishing for bass and that's usually all I'm going for. I know this thread isn't quite as active anymore but I was hoping for some advice on maybe some out of the way spots. I don't mind a hike, or if anyone has some advice on how to get permission to fish some private areas that would be fantastic. Would love to find some spots that aren't quite as crowded. I always catch and release, and try my best to handle the fish with care. Always want to give someone else the chance to catch 'em! I actively pick up trash around areas I go to as well, it's a shame how much garbage gets left at some of the more active spots. Anyways, would greatly appreciate some tips or maybe even a nudge in the right direction for finding some honey holes. Attached is a pic of one of the fish I pulled out of the daycare pond last week, 4lbs is the biggest I've caught there. Good luck all! Quote
wdp Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 Hey @catchandrelease I’ve been fishing at the daycare pond a couple of times the last few weeks. Mostly, because I’ve been getting almost no bites at Halle Park the last few trips. I work close to both ponds so I’ll occasionally fish on my way home from work. Last trip to daycare pond I caught 3 on a popper in about 30 mins. Biggest was only about 2 lbs. Might hit it on my way home tomorrow evening. Give me a shout if you’re out there. Quote
