Wow, did you try to fish it?

Haha, no. Didn't even give it much consideration. It was an outright monsoon.

It's back down to normal now. Got out for about an hour or so before my wife woke up this morning. Place was crawling with people. Got one massive bite, but otherwise nothing.

I guess I need to fish more often in the morning. Pulled this 4.1lb out of the pond behind Johnson-fountains at 11AM last week. Went out to run an errand or two and decided to drop in for a minute on the way back to the house.

I've been focusing a lot of attention back there lately over the past month or two. There's some big fish back there and they're not pressured whatsoever. But there's also a fair amount of 1lb or below(most of my catches). Unfortunately, there's just one decent place to throw clean casts without stomping around in the woods and risking getting snakebit*. It took some figuring out, when to yank my lure out before hitting the reeds and such as there's a good 5+ feet between where the water ends and the edge of vegetation. But I started out with a Senko and now I can drag a lipless crank through. I've caught them on topwater frogs as well. Haven't had any luck with jigs or spinners, but I don't toss them often anyway--they are great for not getting hung up in the reeds though.

You do also have to wade into up to knee deep water if you can't flip them over the reeds.

Someone recently looks like they got a swimbait hung up in a tree limb hanging over the cast radius...and well...I've hit it twice and backlashed my reels both past the point of no return.

*Definitely be wary of the snakes. I was making casts in a different part of that pond near the path and a 3 foot moccasin swam through not 2 feet away from me; I had no idea it was there.

I tried fishing that pond once & gave up because like you said, such limited access. Ain't no way I'd go wading in that water...... especially with moccasins. ?

Been fishing Johnson Park in Collierville using a shaky head with a Berkley power snake, red shad. Throwing some swimbaits and shad colored crank baits as well. The fishing has been slow, but the baitfish are moving in early morning and evening as well. I will try the Civic Center pond behind the library Sunday evening as I have first responder classes all day Saturday at the Red Cross. Good luck to everyone. The shad are thick at the pond behind the library in Collierville and the bass seem to be concentrated on these schools.

Agreed on the slow bite. These past couple weeks have been rough for me. But I think Fall weather is just around corner.

Hi, I would like to give bass fishing a shot.  I've read cold fronts can put a damper on things, but can not find any information on how long before/ after the front before things may pick up again.  I took my daughter fishing at Neshoba on Saturday but we did not even get a nibble (she was using worms), and I was trying a shad.  We didn't see anyone else out there so maybe that should have been a sign.

We would like to try and go again before it gets too cold and are thinking about tomorrow.  Would Wed still be considered part of this current cold front?

Best,

Patrick

I'm no expert, but I think once we get a little more consistent temperatures, we'll find that the fish are transitioning toward late Fall/Winter and start feeding up. The bite around this time last year was great, but temperatures were a bit warmer if I'm remembering correctly.

The bite has has been tough for just about everyone I've talked to at the ponds I frequent. I got a 3lb around 11am about a week ago just before we got some rain on a crankbait. Days before and after that, they haven't been very interested in anything I'm throwing.

Best of luck.

I got out on Friday and picked up 17 dinks at perisol in shelby forest.  Don't know if that pond holds any quality fish or not as it was my first time there.  The fish were very active aND chasing minnows up the creek and pushing them to the banks.  Hard to make a good presentation in 3" water.  Weightless fluke got lots of bites.

I’ve never been to Shelby Forest. It’s about 45 minutes from my house. Is it worth the drive? Are the ponds less pressured than anything I can fish in Gtown or Cville? Is it bank friendly? I’m pretty much at wit’s end fishing these ponds closer to my house, and need some new waters worth fishing.

Thanks, maybe best then to save the vacation days just for a bit.

Never caught anything worth mentioning but I am available this weekend if you want to try one out in my yak.  Costs a little like 5 bucks.

A scavenger hunt of sorts. Don’t yell the spot here, just throw me a like if you know the spot. Gotta liven this thread somehow. :)

Here's a nice big one back in April, I didn't have a scale with me but this was a perfect time walking along the banks and seeing them protecting their bed. Hit them with a nice Shad like swim bait. I usually never catch anything out of this lake but I heard a lot of people go there for catfish. This is at APPLING LAKE in Bartlett.

Since the winter is finally here, I took a break from bass fishing and did some White bass fishing out at Sardis Lake Mississippi.

Here's a quick link to my youtube of catching loads of white bass, these things are so much fun to catch.

Nice. I still haven't yet to find some time and fish Johnson park. Last time I went the water was a bit low.

It’s pretty much my “home pond”. I work about 7 minutes from there, and live about 3 minutes away. So any chance I get, I’m out there. I really need to explore Bartlett and Cordova, as I’m usually at Neshoba on my off days. Any tips for ponds in either of those areas?

My work is about 2 minutes from Halle, but I rarely even think of going. Just never seems to be worth the time.

I’ve stopped with Grove since the middle school practices cross country out there now, so a hundred pounding feet around the banks can’t be good for the fishing.
