Sounds like a nice day.  I changed plans and went to Nashoba- caught a couple 2 LBers and missed a big one, all on a Senko.  There was lots of topwater activity, but I couldn't get any bites on topwater baits.  Going again during lunch break to try and get 'the one that got away'... I'm sure it was a 14 pounder....at least!

Is there a tip on any specific place that the bass hold? I've been around several times but haven't had too much luck.

Missed like a 2 lber when they were spawning in the shallow part in the back.

Looking to get out there soon! Topwater should be lighting up!

I'm fairly new to Nashoba- but I caught both of mine on the shady side of the lake near the entrance off the medical center parking lot; just walk 2 benches in.  Caught both on a Senko maybe 10 yards off the bank.  Saw another guy catch a couple deep with a fluke off the bottom.

I've been going during my lunch break this week, and I can see bass patrolling the bank, but they aren't interested in biting.  They patrol in groups of 4 or 5.  I think middle of the day is a tough time to get them to bite.

So I am taking off tomorrow, and plan on going fishing in the morning. Where would be a good place to go? Sorta new to fishing lakes/ponds in the Memphis area.

Where are you starting out from?

Some of the more visited spots from guys on this board are:

Grove Park in Germantown (behind Houston Middle School)

Halle Park in Collierville

Nashoba Park in Germantown (behind Chick-fil-a)

If you are coming from Bartlett, Lakeland, Arlington area there's:

Appling Lake in Bartlett

Inernational Harvesters Park in Lakeland.

Herb Parson's out in Eads

If you have a boat, Glenn Springs up near Millington is a decent lake to put a boat in and fish.  You can launch a gas boat, but you can only idle.

Good luck.

I'm coming from Walnut Grove/Yates area, so it is really easy to get to any location. I have tried fishing Grove Park and Neshoba before, but I wasn't out there too long. I will try them again for sure.

Is night fishing good At any of these spots

night fishing is a myth it doesent really do much. best time to fish is before the sun rises or after the day cools down after 5 or 4

Night fishing can be fabulous, but most of the parks are only open from dawn to dusk. My biggest bass have been caught between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

Hey Guys! Been lurking like a champ for a couple of years. I'm super addicted to chasing bass locally (with a fly rod) and this forum is gold for some good hotspots. Most of what I do is public access, but this year has brought access to a couple of insane private spots (and my first fly rod bass over 10lbs!)

Hopefully, I can contribute instead of just lurk now!

Feel free to drop by the shop and talk bass (fly or not)IMG_1419.JPG

Good to see any Fly Guy on here!  Ive been almost exclusively a fly guy for the last decade but moving to memphis and seeing all these conventional guys horsing pigs outta brushpiles made me switch.  I sold fly gear for Cabelas while goin to college so Most of my stuff is Cabelas brand and Sage....No Orvis yet.  What are your days off?  Lets fish!

Thanks for the welcome, Vic! I know what you mean about dragging fish out of the junk. Sometimes I have to use a 10wt and 50lb leader to get them out of the grass mats..conventional totally has the advantage over fly rods when geared reels come into play.  I have a blast doing it, but half of it is just trying to prove that not all fly fishermen wear tweed, drink single malt scotch, and fish dry flies from a drift boat while quoting Walton.

Some of us like cowboy cold beer, chasing some stud bass, and listening to Jerry Jeff Walker or Robert Earl Keen instead.

Days off are sporadic. In the near future, I'm off Friday, Monday, and Tuesday. Let's do it!

Didn't see the thing about not promoting my shop!  Edited first post to take the name and phone number out of it. Sorry, guys. Won't happen again.

Hello from Collierville. After roughly a 15 year break between casting, about a month ago I went to Academy and picked up a new baitcasting setup. My usual stops are Grove Park and Johnson Park. I've been behind Collierville town hall once, but got frustrated quickly with every cast bringing back grass. I also dropped in behind Houston High, but it didn't appear to have much action. Herb Parsons didn't seem to be too advantageous, considering I'm strictly bank fishing at this time and I got hung up more times than I'd like to admit.

Primarily fishing junebug and pumpkin plastic worms, and tossing black/blue spinnerbaits since the water seems so murky.

So a couple questions:

Do the two ponds at the front of Johnson offer anything? I've been hitting the pond with the fountains, across from the bridge mostly and had some luck, though the bite has been slow/nonexistent over the past week.

Are there any other ponds I should be hitting, in the Collierville/Germantown area? Anything at Shelby Farms worth checking out?

War Eagle to you as well.

Nashoba (behind GTown Chick Fil A) is a decent spot.  Also, I recently hit some fairly large ponds on the Greenline off Wolf River, copy these coordinates in to Google Maps to see them.  You have to kinda sorta go down a slight hill to get to the water, but it's worth it.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try to get over there this weekend at some point and check them out.

The bite is picking up for me.  Senkos and some shallow crankbaits are bringing some success.  Still nothing on the topwater stuff that I have tried, but i've only thrown topwater sparingly.

Anybody else noticing the improving trend?

Been almost a week since my last outing because I went to Nashville for a few days. But this cold front that came in may put a damper on my plans for Sunday and Monday in terms of strategy. As I said in a previous post, I'm re-learning how to approach bass fishing from a scientific point of view, so I'm not sure what to expect in terms of water temps and activity. I did have mild success on a private 1 acre pond about a week and a half ago. Once again on Junebug, about the only thing I feel confident on lately.

I had some really nice bites at Johnson last Monday(on all 3 of the ponds, the front two were very active as the sun was almost completely down ~6:45), but couldn't land squat, mostly all on Junebug plastic. Catfish were grazing right on the bank at Grove, around 4:30p.

I did see a turtle trying to munch on a bream at Johnson, before I scared him and he dropped it. It was so strange, just seeing that bream floating/swimming perpendicular with the surface until I saw the turtle latched on its tail.

Next plan is to attack the Germantown locations and see what I can do.

Sidenote: Had to buy a new spinning reel(Pflueger President) because my 15+ year old Daiwa is just done. I hadn't been really using it since picking up the new baitcaster, and my wife kept getting birdsnests on the spinning. Chalked it up to her inexperience. But I used it at the private spot and got a massive birdsnest, and realized the line was catching a tiny nick in the top of the spool. I believe that nick could probably be filed down so I'm not going to trash it--it still retrieves smoothly and doesn't creak and moan; but it gave me an excuse to update :). So far I'm liking the Pflueger, but like the Daiwa reel, the rod(similar age 2pc. Berkley Lightning Rod 6ft med/heavy action)desperately needs updating soon. The rod itself twists the guides and the reel out of whack, which I have to correct on just about every cast--going to try to take it apart and see what the problem is. Done with the 2pc in general, but I still like the action of that particular rod.

Sorry for rambling, I don't have much in the way of sincere fishing companions that could offer more than, "that sucks or that's cool".

Hey boss....as far as a good rod and reel, I just picked up a Falcon HD medium as well as an All Star medium fast from academy...  they are both one piece with quality guides.  Check em out.  Just picked up a Daiwa BG...excited to test it out.
