jamarkwe Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Ketchup Hooks are much better..... Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Mustad ultra points are great hooks. I use these alot. The octopus hooks you bought are also quality hooks. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted September 17, 2009 Super User Posted September 17, 2009 Ketchup Hooks are much better..... Then you have to try the BBQ ones mmmmmmmmm!! Quote
endless Posted September 17, 2009 Author Posted September 17, 2009 Don't you mean Mustad? ;D yea yea yea, dont you mean yall just bairly got by to oakland? lol j/k but nah thanks for pointing that out i just fixed it. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted September 17, 2009 Super User Posted September 17, 2009 Don't feel bad...i spelled it like that too... ;D I use Gman's jigs and that's what he has on there. Quote
Stringjam Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 I really like the Ultra-Lock worm/soft plastic hooks. The Triple-Grip trebles will flat keep a fish on, but they bend WAY too easily. Some people love Triple Grips and some people hate them.....I'm trying some Gamakatsu EWG's to see if I can remedy the whole hook bending thing, but still stay with that type of design. Quote
Koop Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 My preferences: 1. Owner 2. Mustad or Gamakatsu Mustad is right up there with the other "high end" hooks. Quote
D4u2s0t Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 My preferences:1. Owner 2. Mustad or Gamakatsu Mustad is right up there with the other "high end" hooks. these are the 3 I use. I have never had a problem with any of them. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted September 18, 2009 Super User Posted September 18, 2009 The ultra points are great hooks, as are the triple grips. Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted September 18, 2009 Super User Posted September 18, 2009 the salt water 4x treble hooks are SUPER STRONG , i can't imagine ANY line straightening them out !!! ( i use them for catfishing ) Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted September 18, 2009 Super User Posted September 18, 2009 I use their trebles on my xraps, use 1 size larger than stock, also I make stinger rigs with their 2/0 trebles and they hold perfectly, never had one straighten even on 30 or 40# fish. Quote
steeleagle Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 I was in BPS last year during their spring fishing event. The owner and gamakatsu reps were talking to each other. I asked them both, "please tell me why your hook is better than the rest of the market". At almost the same time they both said, "If you go with a quality hook (Mustad, owner gammy,), you will have no issue. It comes down to personal preference". I now base my decision on what hooks to buy by which of those 3 brands is on sale. Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 18, 2009 Super User Posted September 18, 2009 Mustad uses premium high-carbon steel that has been specially Nor-Tempered to increase strength as much as 30% over conventional tempering methods. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted September 18, 2009 Super User Posted September 18, 2009 I'm with Catt. Mustad hooks are the ones I use and have never had a problem. They seem to hold a point a lot better than the rest. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted September 18, 2009 Super User Posted September 18, 2009 Mustad is a brand, not a specific hook. Mustad probably makes more different styles and grades of hooks than any hook-maker in the world. Every Mustad hook is not the cat's meow, but the "Mustad Ultra Point" hook ranks right alongside Gamakatsu, Owner and Daiichi. Roger Quote
