dwtaylor Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 I am for sure getting the blackfin frames, but I am kind of confused about lens color. I am primarily using these for sight fishing, and I want an amber lens for that. I have noticed that the green mirror is an amber base with a green mirror finish and offered in the 580G, while the amber is only offered up to 580P. Should I go with the green mirror with the 580G's or maybe look at the copper 580G's? Thanks! Sorry admins if I put this in the wrong forum. I have no idea where it would fit. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted February 17, 2012 Super User Posted February 17, 2012 Green mirror in 580G. Quote
Brian Needham Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 I think costa has a chart somewhere, lens matched to condintions. get all 3 and have it covered......yes there is a sunglass monkey too! Quote
Aluma-Bass Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 I hear the silver coated lenses allow more light then the green. Both are copper based. Quote
jdw174 Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 When I bought mine, I emailed Costa for a lens that would work best for both cloudy and sunny conditions. They recommended the Green Mirror. I haven't been disappointed. Quote

Super User Darren. Posted February 17, 2012 Super User Posted February 17, 2012 Costas are a dream for me. Tried some Costa Fathom 580G's on this weekend and, well, I shouldn't have. I can't bring myself to admit to my wife that I *need* these because they're better. She personally has captured and shot different bait monkeys a few times. If she knew there was a sunglasses monkey, I'd not be allowed out of the house. Anyhow, having worked for Bausch & Lomb (tech dude) once upon a time, I can tell you that I would pick glass over poly carb any day. As for color, that's a tough one. I have a yellow/copper lense XPS-brand pair that is decent. I'd love to try several colors out on the water, but that's not gonna happen. If I could pick one pair between the two you mentioned I'd go green mirror. Quote
Brian Needham Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 I cant find the chart, but if you go to a store (bps ect.) they should have the brochure that has it in it. That being said I have summed it down to this........Blue lens for offshore, high sunlight............Green lens for inshore normal light.......amber for normal everday good mix. I have a pair of Maya10 blue lens 580G.....frame dont fit me well, so I need to get another frame. also have Harpoon in the 580P amber, love the frame and the lens........but MUCH RATHER have the 580G, as the glass lens is just where its at. always get the glass if you can. Remember, ALWAYS try several frames on, as each frame is a different size and fits the head a bit different. I think I found the frame for me, which is the Harpoon. and sooner or later I will get blue, green, and amber glass with that frame. good luck with your search for your perfect glasses! Quote
Brian Needham Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 http://www.bassfishin. com/blog/sight-fishing-bass/ all that did is prove I will never be a bed fisherman, LOL Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 I've had several pairs over the years and I finally went with the glass lens. I highly recommend you go this route also. Like above get the mirrored ones. Quote

Super User BASSclary Posted February 17, 2012 Super User Posted February 17, 2012 I really like the gray base lens for everyday activities, but the green lenses are just hard to beat for bass fishing. I recently just got rid of my Costa Permits because the nose bridge was too wide, and my glasses would slide off my face. So I sold those, and now am going to get a pair of Fantails for my smaller face. I'm debating getting the blue though, because I wear my sunglasses everywhere. However, the green mirror glass lenses are the best in the industry right now. Quote
Triton_Mike Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 I am sponsored by Costa. I had the amber lenses. Decided to try the silver mirror. For sight fishing I like the amber better. It cuts out more light than the silver mirror. I love the hammerhead frames.. Tackle Tour did a great review on the silver mirror lenses a while back. They hit it spot on.. I think they actually took some pics through the lenses as well. To me the 580s are CRISP!! Pricey tho. When you have your glasses on the world just looks surreal when looking through them LOL. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted February 19, 2012 Super User Posted February 19, 2012 I had the glass blue mirror and could not read my gps screen with them on so I took them back and got amber. Quote
