I wouldn't get your hopes up about a bass boat. Anything that cheap will need alot of work. You should be able to pick up a newer jon boat, many of which now have livewells. Might help if we knew where in the country you live. Someone here might know someone selling. Did you check Craigslist?

While you're looking for a boat that you can afford, go ahead and dream, stranger things have happened. I can recall 40 years ago, I was living in the dorms at Mizzou and one of the guys on my floor shows up on Sunday evening driving a 6 year old Porsche.

It seems some wealthy Kansas City matron was steamed at her husband and decided to sell his Porsche - for $500.

Never mind that in 1972, liability only, it cost more to insure that car than he paid for it. It was fun for a while.

While you're looking for a boat, don't ignore that insurance. Every year, a few people somewhere in the country do something stupid/tragic and there are unfortunate consequences. If you're not insured, there are a whole lot more consequences, some of them fiscally catastrophic.

Have you discussed this with your parents? You may not be able to legally buy and register one until you are at least 18 years old. You also might not be able to get insurance.

Agree that a jon boat is your best bet money-wise. They can be car topped, my Dad can attest to that.

Being a kayak fisherman myself, I'd suggest you look at some of the fishing yaks out there. You can outfit some with livewells, can easily stand in some models as well. Much easier to transport yourself. You're also able to motorize them with trolling motors if you want.

Of course, I fish a solo yak. If you want to take buds with you, tandem yak = two people, or jon boat = 2+ depending on weight allowed.

I am 17 and just bought my first bass boat. In my state (NY), i cannot legally enter into a contract under age 18, so insurance had to be under my parents name, but i could be put on as the primary driver. To do this, boat also has to be registered under parents name. Not a big deal, just run it past the folks. When buying insurance, get a bunch of quotes. I got insured by one company that was $200+ less than the rest, with the exact same coverage. As well, if you plan on fishing any tourneys associated with BASS (and most others), you will probably need 2 live wells, $300,000 liability, boat over 16' and engine over 60 or 80 HP (exact # isnt coming to me at the moment...). A bass boat is a lot of trouble at your age. IMHO, a Jon or a yak will give you much more pleasure cuz u won't have to put much money into it for upkeep. Life is just simpler that way. Save for the bass boat till you're older and more established.

Just look like Craigslist if they have one that's close to you look what I bought for 1100 dollars and just needed carpet. it's an 18 ft hydra sport with a 150 evenrude
