I have a Falcon Low Rider and a Falcon Origional (both 7 ft rods and med/heavy). i would like to get a couple more good rods and i have been lookin ar Gloomis rods. What is the difference between a 6'6 rod (crankbait series) and some other Glommis rods? can pretty much use any rod for anything you throw? just because is a spinnerbair series doesnt mean you cant use it for a worm rod to? or all they bait spasific? if they all are bait spasific then what could i use my Low Rider and Original for? i have never used a Gloomis rod and be the first time ive used my Low Rider this year. ive always went with the wal mart specials untill i fish the falcon rod. is a Gloomis rod worth $245.00 :cry4: ? please help! i have just resently started tourney fishing so if i sound like an amiture thats because i am lol. thanks for all the help!

honestly, up until recently i threw everything on about 3 different rods and they worked fine. i sometimes feel like all this technique specific talk is just that, talk but once you read about why a worm rod is a worm rod and a flippin stick is a flippin stick youll realize theres a difference. that bein said, loomis rods are great rods, theres a reason why a ton of people use them but imo theyre a bit over rated. theyre not the most sensitive rod out there nor are they the lightest but like i said theyre great. if your set on buying a loomis go for it, your gonna get a quality rod but if your open to suggestions id say give the new irod air a try, theyre 249 and look and sound to be amazing! they dont get released til march 15th but i think theyll be well worth the wait. a couple other rod companies i would suggest is powell, cashion, st. croix, or stick with your falcons, just buy more.

Your question is why I hate labels or rods that are techinque specific rods. Crankbait rods are going to be used for crankbaits of course but also jerkbaits, topwater lures, basically most lures that use treble hooks because they have a specific action which is they flex through out the most of the rod length were as a fast action rod only bends or flexes about 1/3 of the way down from the tip. The other use I say for crankbait rods is for throwing spinnerbaits or buzzbaits, a lot of anglers like using those for spinnerbaits. A 7' medium heavy with a fast action will work for jigs, worms, spinnerbaits and buzzbaits and just about and single hook lure, it is pretty much an all purpose rod. You could even fish a crankbait on it but I don't recommend it as you will lose a lot of fish as compared to a crankbait specific rod. A 7' medium power fast action rod would also be an all purpose rod but it would be with slightly smaller lures that that of the medium heavy.

Loomis bass rods are one of the best on the market and priced accordingly. What sets Loomis apart from most rod makers is they are USA made with lifetime warranty. There are a few others like Lamiglas that are made in the USA, most other however use rod blanks and components made off shore with a minimum of assembly in the US. What sets a high end rod apart from a discount house rod is the rod blank, reel seat and guides, plus the customer support and warranty.

Excellent custom rod maker is ALX rods; Alex uses state of the rod components and offers lifetime warranty.

What you want with a bass rod is ease of casting the lures you fish with, proper guide placement to maximize casting distance and fish fighting, light weight rod blank and top quality components.

In general a rod that works well with a Texas rigged worm works for most other bass lures. Jigs can require a specific rod and crank baits with treble hooks cast and hook set better with a more parabolic rod that loads more of the rod length. Loomis GLX844 is a good all around rod for example. Also look at Dobyn's rods, Gary has good rods and great service support; 704C is equal to the GLX.

Rods are personal items and only you know what feels right to you.

For enthusiasts, technique specific gear is fun

to collect. However, three rigs cover all the

basics:

#1 6 1/2' or 7' MH baitcaster for jigs, some

soft plastics and spinnerbaits

#2 6 1/2' or 7' MM baitcaster for treble hook

lures

#3 7' MF spinning rod for lighter lures and a

variety of techniques

I am a Loomis fan and have been for a long time, when I heard all of the talk about the Dobyns rods I had to check them out for myself. The Champion Extreme is a good rod but it is nowhere close to a GLX, I'm sorry.

Try Duckett rods, they are awesome rods and don't cost as much as G Loomis

Pretty much spot on for must haves in your bass boat, I personally use nothing shorter than 7', but just my preferance. What some of the other guys are saying is correct too, when using crank baits a crank bait rod (a rod with medium power and a moderate action) is prefered. The moderate or slower action allows for more flex through out more of the rod blank. The intention is so that when using crank baits with treble hooks the slower more flexible action helps in keeping the treble hooks set versus pulling out, if you were to be using a fast action rod.

I fish the back of the boat in tournaments so space is limited. My current line up for rods is as follows.

2- 7' medium hvy fast action baitcasters strung up with 12# floro for running bullet sinkers and rubber

2- 7' medium fast action spinning rods I use these for jig heads, drop shoting and top water

1 - 7' 3" medium hvy fast action baitcaster with 25# braid for jigging (heavy would probably be better for this application if you get into heavy cover. Most of my jigging is not in heavy cover.

1 - 7' medium fast action bait caster with braid for spinner baits

1 - 7' medium moderate set up for cranking.

All my rods are custom built and built on MHX blanks. My next build is probably going to be 6' 10" medium xfast spinning rod for drop shotting. Sweet little rod. That will be built on a Rainshadow blank.

All my bait casters I run Quantum reels in a mixture of gear ratios depending on what I am using them for. My spinning rods are all Pflueger reels.

Not that my set ups are for every one. They work for me. My partner has the exact same set ups except just more of them...LOL!
