Just need some input from more experienced buzzbait fishermen or fisherwomen. I currently have 3 different buzzbaits. (had four till I threw one in a tree today  >;)) I fish a black 3/8 ounce with gold blade and white 3/8 with gold blade in cavitron line. I also fish white and black with silver blade and clacker from booyah, also 3/8 ounce. I can't seem to get bit on any of them. I am having good luck with a jitterbug in same area at same times but nothing on buzzbaits. I am bank fishing and have both side of old roadbed in front and rip rap off to the left.

Any suggestions???? I have tried burning them and reeling them slow enough to just keep them on top of the water.

I know the feeling.  Think it has more to do with the presentation that will trigger the bass into hitting.  Frequently find they will take a buzzbait over all else, have done really well on the twin arm/blade models this season, where last season it was clacker single blade baits....and on other occasions they will only hit such as the jitterbug, hullapopper, or some of my home-made prop baits...I sometimes have to remind myself that the important issue is what they want on a given time/day....not what I want to throw at them.....be prepared to ring the changes....very rarely do I not find something in my box they want, but it happens now and again!

Cavitrons

Black skirt

White skirt

White chartreuse skirt

Reel fast

Reel slow

Try to see what the fish want

If not takers, drop down in size to a 1/4 ounce buzzbait and give it a try on a spinning rig.

I have a "Woodchopper" but have not thrown it.  May do so now that I read above about its success.

Good luck.  ;)

Hi, went to the bother of finding the lure on the web for you...however as I have posted less than ten times I can't add a link/photo of the bait for you.  Very odd rule but there you are...it's logic escapes me....and prevents new posters from adding pictures to the post to aid/inform the reader.    So you will have to do it yourself.

It's a prop surface bait.  I make them out of wood in various sizes for bass and pike/musky, though these days many are of plastic....being a traditionalist I prefer wood...and I think they fish better.

If you do a web search on 'Luhr Jensen woodchopper' all will be revealed.

it's ten posts. Not a big deal. If you are actually going to contribute to the forum then you'll have them in no time.

I have had the best success with the original buzzbait ...Lunker Lure in 1/2 and 1/4 oz. It squeaks like hell. The squeakier the better..

There are some waters where bass are conditioned to certain batis and they don't work nearly as well. That being said, I find retrieving a buzzbait as slowly as possible while keeping it on the surface is the best overall presentation, and that buzzbaits work best in shallow expanses with weed or wood cover, and during lower light conditions.

The rule is intended to block spam. This is a "family friendly"

forum and we don't want inappropriate photos popping up.

Ten posts is hardly a burden for contributing members.

UH BOY, Let me get my thinking cap on here. There are so many times that I wish I could be with an angler when he runs into problems catching fish and thinking its he (the fisherman) or the bait he is using. I find that when we go with a preconceived  notion or idea when we hit the water ,we get discouraged when it does not produce. The main element or factor  is " it's what the fish wants", not what we want them to want. As for buzz baits- they can be the most productive lure of they day when the conditions are right for them otherwise ya hit a blank. Its a puzzle that the angler must figure out. Ya cant go out saying I'm going to throw buzz baits all day and scratch your head when it doesn't pan out.  Shooter said he was throwing 3/8 oz. Sometimes they do not want the 3/8 because it can be to big ,loud and obnoxious. That's when I go to a 1/4 oz(just downsizing) sometimes it works and sometimes it dosent.  When it doesn't that's when  I throw a spinner bait or crank bait. Then I find if they aren't aggressive -that's when I go to the jig or senko style baits. If that doesn't catch them -there are no fish in that area. There have been many times that I just couldn't get the fish to break the surface area to strike a buzz bait.Shooter just mix up the presentation or change location and go with the changing conditions. Change baits and even use different buzz baits to see what kind the fish wants.Figuring out the puzzle is the most rewarding part of fishing(it produces). If we were catching all of the time ,fishing wouldn't be fun or a challenge.

Thanks to all who answered.

Bobby, Thanks also for the input. I have been catching 2-5 fish almost every morning on the jitterbug. This particular day, I caught 2 right away on the jitterbug, but also had four strikes without hookups. Thats when I changed first to your cavitron black buzzbait thinking the fish just did not want the jitterbug. No takers. Tried the black booyah buzzbait with the clacker. No takers. Then tried both the cavitron and booyah white. fished each for about 10-15 minutes. stopped throwing the buzzbait when i tossed the white booyah into the trees  >;) >:(. I have not tried downsizing the bait however. I guess the answer is to keep throwing them and really pay attention when I do start getting bites.

That is exactly correct. Let the fish dictate to you how they want it-fast slow- medium but always carry a follow up bait like a tube or senko style bait for the missed strikes. I know that is hard to do when walking the bank . It can make the difference between a good day and a great day.
