What is the difference between the 798ci si and the 798 HDci si? Is it just a new year model?? Can't seem to find a good answer.

The 798ci SI and 798c SI are legacy units. (ci) has color display and internal GPS antenna, c has color display and external GPS antenna. The 798ci HD SI is the lastest model and is Ethernet capable for sharing data with another unit. The rest of the specs are the same.

Forgot to add that the 798ci HD SI has Contour XD background mapping and the older units have Uni-map or Contour XD depending on the mfg date.

Plus the other version was available with extra Navionics mapping included for an addition cost and were called NVB models. The HD model is not available as a NVB version.

I'll send you an IM with more details.

On a side note there are some great prices for 798ci SI going on at bass pro fishing sales in mar. and on cabelas! Seen em for around 750 on both places.

That is a higher price than they were selling them on Black Friday in 2010 when they were trying to sell all their discontinued models in stock prior to the release of the 798ci HD SI units.

that doesn't suprise me at all! Right now I really haven't seen one cheaper than that though! Another year or two and I think these units will drop a good bit in price. If you know of any cheaper sites post it up I have been looking for one but I'm just not ready to put that much into it

Don't expect the prices to drop much or at all. The only way the prices will drop is when they are coming out with new lines like stated above. Humminbird can't keep up as it is with building their units so it would be pointless to lower the cost even more. SI unites are pricey no doubt but a worthwhile investment.
