l3rd Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 I am thinking about adding a few more reels to my collection. These 2 are around the price point I am considering, but only the Pinnacle has 3 gear ratios which is something I am looking for. Does anyone have experience with these, preferably both? Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted February 15, 2012 Super User Posted February 15, 2012 I had two JM reels, and they were both solid performers. Very smooth, good casters, good brakes, but heavy and larger. I've had Roadwarrior's Pinnacle combo in my hands, and between those two reels, I would have try the Pinnacle. Quote

I love BPS gear most of the time, but I am heavily leaning toward the Pinnacle. Quote
l3rd Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 Ghoti, FYI, I decided to get a Pinnacle, now I have to find a rod to go with it... Using it for spinners, heavy as well as light, and as my boat's rod storage only holds up to 6'6" rods, I am thinking about something like Daiwa's Team Daiwa T Casting Rod 6'6" Med Hvy, or perhaps an Abu Garcia Veritas Casting Rod 6'6" Med Hvy... Anyone have opinions on the micro-guide Veritas? My son bought one, but the Cincinnati BPS local pro says he had a, or was it some micro guide rod(s), but had nothing but trouble with them, he said never again. Is that a common experience, was it because he got them early on, and perhaps Fuji has improved them now, or what? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 16, 2012 Super User Posted February 16, 2012 Pinnacle Perfecta offers a number of choices. I happen to have the jerkbait, crankbait rod: http://www.pinnaclefishing.com/shop/t-technicalhighlightrods.aspx http://www.pinnaclefishing.com/shop/p-119-perfecta-dhc5.aspx#page=page-1 Quote

Besides, the Pinnacles only go from 3/8 - 1 oz, while the others go down to 1/4 oz. I am sure the Pinnacle can cast 1/4 oz, but obviously it's not optimal which the others claim to be. It just seems to be a strange rang in 6'6" poles. I was ready to give up last night when I was looking just before I stumbled upon those 2. The Pinnacles are for sure the best looking rods though! Super User bowhunter63 Posted February 17, 2012 Super User Posted February 17, 2012 Pinnacle hands down,I have a few now and they are great performers.Plan on a few more in the near future. Quote

I had planned on going with the new Johnny Morris Carbon Black, but when I was unimpressed with it, I began thinking about the JM Signature, and the Pinnacles as all I am hearing about the Pinnacles is how great they are. I just hope they are not like what I am hearing about some of the Quantums, they work well for a short time, and then fall apart... Anyway, I did go with the high gear ration Pinnacle, am thinking about getting the low gear ratio one soon too. Wish they would come out with a lefty for flipping and pitching... Quote

Properly used in as far as a bass rod goes is making sure the guides will pass necessary leaders and knots. A size 4 guide will pass 65# braid to 17# fluoro joined with a good Albright knot without a problem. Ice build up and filimentous algae can clog them so consider that too. Quote
l3rd Posted February 18, 2012 Author Posted February 18, 2012 Thanks for the info Delaware Vally Tackle! Am I missing any good rods that readily come to mind? I am sure I am, but those 2 looked good, and the Veritas comes in a Micro too. Quote

I happen to have the jerkbait, crankbait rod: http://www.pinnaclef...hlightrods.aspx http://www.pinnaclef...spx#page=page-1 I hate to say it, but I am leaning toward the 6'6" MH Pinnacle. I have yet to cast my new DHC5-7111CAHSB though... I have only been out in the boat a couple of times since I bought it, and have yet to do any flipping or pitching... I guess you are pretty impressed with your as you certainly are touting the line... I know you just got your rod, has anyone actually used one yet though? I am also still considering about going 6'8" with a new MH Crucial, they are pretty tough to beat... I'd really rather be able to put it into my real locker so I am leaning heavily toward the Pinnacle... Quote
