Super User Hi Salenity Posted February 14, 2012 Super User Posted February 14, 2012 Anyone seen the new Villain rods by Abu? I'm not sure I can get past the reel seat ! Maybe if they put a lime green rear grip on it the reel seat wouldn't stick out as bad. Anyhow it's nice to see them with a higher end rod ($180). I'm curious to see how it'll stack up against some other rods in that price range? I also saw that Cabela's has a new $200 White rod that looks pretty nice and has micros. Anyone know who makes rods for Cabela's? Quote
bwell Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 I think it looks pretty good... If I come accross some money I might have to get one. Quote
Nkybassfisherman Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 We got a few of them in at Dicks the other day. Personally I don't like the feel of them compared to even the Veritas. I think they are a little bit lighter than the veritas but it just does not feel the same in my hand. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted February 14, 2012 Super User Posted February 14, 2012 My wife said she Is gonna buy me one with a revo mgx for when I get home from deployment. I'm not gonna tell her no after all I'm an Abu fan anyways. So I'll give a review in like 14months when I actually will be able to use the thing lol. Quote

I've heard nothing but good things about the reel seat for anglers that already own the Villian, the only thing that is disappointing about it is they are slightly heavier than the Veritas models. As for the Cabelas now offereing, it is the Platinum ZX, it uses the 3M resin and it uses the Fuji K-series guides with SiC inserts, these are expensive guides, they are not micros. Quote

I had to look again and you are right, It was the new E21 not the Platinum that had the micros I was thinking of. Quote

Heavier than the Veritas? Aren't the villian rods supposed to be the lightest of the bunch???? Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted February 14, 2012 Super User Posted February 14, 2012 Heavier than the Veritas? Aren't the villian rods supposed to be the lightest of the bunch???? Someone actually weighed both and found that the Veritas was a hair lighter, just to put it in perspective, it prbably couldn't be detected by hand. I don't think they were being marketed as being lighter than any specific rod but instead they were supposed to really work well with the MGX. I think that as with the Vendetta rod, this Villian is made to go with a specific reel and that is the MGX. Quote
KCL655321 Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 I'll let you know when I get mine that I just ordered. $102 on Amazon from Red's Gear BTW. Quote
21farms Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 i have five of the abu-garcia v-rods: two verdicts, two veritas and one villain. it's hard to compare across the different lines since they're different in power and action ratings. my 6'9" ML/MF villian is 4.2 ounces while my 7'0" M/MF veritas is 4.1 ounces so in this case the veritas is lighter even though it is 3 inches longer and one power higher. on the other hand, the 7'3" MH/F veritas i had was 5.4 ounces whereas the 7'1" MH/F villain is supposed to be 4.7 ounces and the 7'3" H/F villian is supposed to be 4.9 ounces. even more confusing, my 7'0" MH/XF spinning verdict is 4.8 ounces. i'd have to say that there's no clear-cut answer to which are lightest. Ima Bass Ninja Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 i fondled one in Sportsmans warehouse the other day. i have to say the thing i like best about it was the reel seat. Very eye catching and comfortable. Its always atleast a year before i even think about buying something new , that way it gives them time to get the kinks out if there are any. Quote
