Hitch Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 I think im about to bite the bullett and pick up 3 of these reels. My question is are they as good as the reviews I have read? How is the durability on them? And how is the casting distance? Ant help would be great. Quote
LuckyHandsINC. Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 You may be able to find the XT for around the same price. If not the regular one is very nice the only thing i dont like is the weight. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted February 13, 2012 Super User Posted February 13, 2012 If your not gonna get the xt, get the wlp, but I would recommend the xt, very durable, and casts great. Quote
KCL655321 Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Whether you're talking spinning or casting, I don't think you can go wrong. I have a 64WLP & I really like it for heavier line/lures, it'll be on my Powell Paddletail rod this year with some 17 or 20lb fluorocarbon. But I wouldn't suggest the widespool if you're looking to cast lighter t-rigs, jigs, etc, since I really struggle when I dropped below 3/8oz & I'm assuming the regular size spools will handle lighter lines/lures better. I imagine the XT is really great, since it's pretty close to a Premier with a really sharp look to it. I'd really like to get one at some point, but I missed out on a couple I saw for under $150 & I struggle to pull the trigger on it at around $200, since I can score another Premier for that price. The Guy Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 I got the 64wlp a few months back when tackle warehouse had them for 110. It's an amazing reel and I have nothing but good things to say about it. Quote
Shinyboy Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 If you're talking about spinning reels, I have two XT's and they are awesome. Smooth, cast a mile, light and with the right rod offer a perfectly balanced setup. Nice smooth drag too. I'd buy another in a heartbeat if I needed another spinning setup. Quote
Aluma-Bass Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 i also just got the 64wlp, i have not been able to take it out on the water yet but just messing around with it can tell its a smooooth reel! Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted February 14, 2012 Super User Posted February 14, 2012 i have a 7 to 1 narrow spool. it weighs 8 oz so i don't get people saying it weighs a lot.the reel casts as good as it di 4 seasons ago.the finishis indestructable and looks brand new afer 3 full aluminum rowboat seasons. Hitch Posted February 14, 2012 Author Posted February 14, 2012 I am a quantum user. I got smokes and energy's so I was wondering how they would compare to them. And I am talking about baitcasters Quote
38 Super Fan Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Great reels, I love my 6.4 WLP, what I really like is that it palms better than any of my other reels. Excellent performer as well, and they routinely sell under $150, which makes them a good value. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Each brand has their quirks, but Pflueger reels are good quality on par with the Revos, another Pure Fishing label. Quote
Clint C. Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 My favorite setup right now is with the Patriarch 9530 spinning. You will not be disappointed. Casts a mile, durable, SUPER light. I love it. Side note: I almost fish exclusively weightless lures with it. Not sure how it would handle heavy stuff, but don't see why it wouldn't be just as great. Quote
jj2 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 I have all 3 versions and love them all they work every bit as good now after 3 seasons as they did the day I got them the narrow spool does handle lighter baits better than the wide spool and you can tell a difference in weight between the xt and the other 2 Quote
jignfule Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 for the money it's hard to beat a Patriarch. durability? I don't know yet. Quote
