I'm looking to get a nice spinning rod/reel for the wife so she can use it for wacky and T-rig. I like the new look of these rods and the new reel felt good but wonder if anyone gaved either one a try? I'm hoping to get her something for Valentine's day. I thought about going with the 7' MH-F rod for her. The combo goes for $139. and I'm trying to not go over $150 for both. I wanted to check out the Carbonlite spinning reels but not in store yet.

This is the new Extreme rod- http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-XPS-Extreme-Spinning-Rods/product/11092205011617/262721

Any update on the rod?

I've been using a 6'6" MF two-piece St Croix Triumph spinning model as a "trunk" rod for a while and finally snapped the tip off while camping last weekend, so I'm on the hunt for a replacement in the same $70-$80 price range, and the Extremes are on sale for $70 right now.

Bought one about 2 weeks ago. Have used it two times out for texas rigs to try out. Got it for nieces and nephews when they go on boat with me.

I really like feel of it. Caught a few lb or slightly bigger on texas rig and reel performed well and rod had a good feel to it.

Reel spooled up well with 8 lb flourocarbon and cast it pretty well.

Overall I am very satisfied with it in limited use. Quality seems to exceed the price.

I have had absolutely BAD EXPERIENCES with BPS reels, and will NEVER BUY ONE again.

The rods are okay, but the reels just $%*& !!

Sorry to bash a sponsors products, but I speak nothing but the truth , based on my experiences.

I will ONLY BUY a Shimano or Daiwa reels from now on, as they hold up to use, and you can ALWAYS GET PARTS and service for them, unlike BPS reels which are made for BPS by other companies .

I have never had a Daiwa nor Shimano give me the problems BPS reels have,

Shimano customer service is next to NOBODY; they are THE BEST, im my experiences, and they stand behind their products 100%, even many years later,

Cabelas Prodigy rods and reels are on sale right now; you can get the combo for about $120. I have the 200 size spinning reel and med/F 7' 2 piece rod. It's a good soft plastics set up, and does well with spinnerbaits. I recommend it.

I am a Shimano fan myself but I don't think BPS deserves all the hate. I only have used one of their reels which is the old model carbonlite and it performs just as well as my shimanos. BPS has far better customer service than most companies and I can't imagine finding parts for their reels is too hard because they have a warehouse full of various reel parts. Not to mention you aren't supposed to complain about companies on here anymore let alone a sponsor.

I have 2 BPS Extreme rods, 1 BPS Pro-Qualifier rod, and 1 BPS crankin' stick.

I have 1 BPS Extreme Reel, and 1 BPS Pro-Qualifier reel.

Not a single problem with any of this gear yet. I'm very fond of the Extreme Rods, especially on sale.

I do like BPS inshore extreme rods, a good product, but can't say too much for the Johnny Morris spinning reel I bought, cast after cast resulted in windknots. I take the reel back to BPS, the rep gives me a look as to say "why did you by this thing", exchanged the reel for a Daiwa tierra and 2 years later have yet to have a windknot.

As far as Shimano parts always available..........not so. Stradics are notorius for their line roller bearings rusting with saltwater use. I call Shimano and they tell me that part is on backorder for 3 months, also no local reel repairer had the part. I did have the option of removing the bearing and walking into Boca bearing, they are a couple of miles from my home, but I chose to send the reel in to Shimano repair. 2 weeks later my reel was back and the part replaced, as I was told the parts department and the service department are different entities. Service can usually fix it, but the parts department may not have the item in stock, as was my case. All in all it worked out so nothing to get bent out of shape about. I would have no qualms about buying another stradic, it's an excellent product.
