moloch16 Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Anyone tried these? It's suppose to come through cover better, and rip through weeds better. This is attractive to me since this is all I fish and love cranking. How good is it? http://www.rapala.com/products/luresdetail.cfm?modelName=dt_thug&freshorsalt=Fresh Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted September 11, 2009 Super User Posted September 11, 2009 Wow! Thanks for showing. I am a diehard dt fisherman and this looks pretty cool.Slightly different profile from a dt-6. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted September 11, 2009 Super User Posted September 11, 2009 I saw it on their site the other day, and was wondering the same thing. I haven't seen it in any stores yet. I've got a few spots I'd like to try it. Falcon Quote
Super User islandbass Posted September 11, 2009 Super User Posted September 11, 2009 Looks like they are taking a page from Lhur Jensen on this one, Rapala's answer to the speedtrap, which is a great little bait on it's own! I thought the same thing. It shouldn't be surprising since Rapala bought Luhr Jensen. Hope the local vendors carry them. I am a DT fan. Quote
Stringjam Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 I don't think this crank will be at all similar to a Speed Trap. The LJ has a narrower lip angle and line-tie in nose. This bait has a longer, sharply angled lip (usually equals wide action) and also has a lip-mounted line-tie. My guess is that the action will be quite a bit different than the tight-wiggling Speed-Trap. Quote
Bass Junkie Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Looks good!!! Thanks for showin' us!! And ya gotta love the name..... Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted September 11, 2009 Super User Posted September 11, 2009 is it just me or does this not look too different from the regular DT's? Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted September 12, 2009 Super User Posted September 12, 2009 is it just me or does this not look too different from the regular DT's? Not really but look at the angle of the bill and also notice the body is more elongated than say a dt-6(this bait rated 6-8 ft) can't tell how fat or rounded it is by the photo. The real comparison will be the wobble/wiggle compared to a standard dt. Won't know til I get one in my hand, and I can't wait either. Yes great name. All we need is to compare that dumbed down idiotic mentality to bass fishing too. : Quote
Thad Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Yes great name. All we need is to compare that dumbed down idiotic mentality to bass fishing too. : I mean really, why in the world would they give it that name? It just doesn't sound like Rapala and if they are trying to target a younger market or something this isn't the best route. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 13, 2009 Super User Posted September 13, 2009 You guys are seriously griping about the name "thug," when you can go buy a Sweet Beaver in Dirty Sanchez or Penetration? : Quote

Super User grimlin Posted September 13, 2009 Super User Posted September 13, 2009 You guys are seriously griping about the name "thug," when you can go buy a Sweet Beaver in Dirty Sanchez or Penetration? : In seriousness,This might the bait I'm looking for,I don't use cranks much because i can't find one weedless enough to properly work from shore. Yep, I hear what you are saying man. It does look like a bad @zz bait but.... how is it going to be better for cover? And yes some of their most recent offering aren't that great. ( cough cough!-clacken rap) Quote
moloch16 Posted September 14, 2009 Author Posted September 14, 2009 Heheh love the drama. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. Rapala is definitely trying to stay "cool" what with the X-Rap brand and such. You can't blame them they don't want to be known as the lure grandpa used. Personally I think Rapala is a fine brand and if the Thug performs as advertised it will be a good bait. Quote
Stringjam Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 I hope the action is somewhat more tighter than he thinks it will be, Rapala is lacking a bait in that nitche. It's possible that it could be tighter than I'm guessing....the line-tie is pretty far down the lip, and the farther you go, the more it works to tighten up the action, but that's still a lot of lip angle.
