What's the big deal about Facebook? My wife spends hundreds of hours a week on there. Is it really that great and wonderful? I mean with the exception of maybe 8 people, I really can't or couldn't stand the people I went to high school with. I could care less about what they are doing now, and don't really want the world to know what Im doing every second of every day. Am I missing the whole point of this?

I'm with you I don't have a face book never have never will I had myspace back in highschool but that was 7 years ago haven't been logged on in maybe 6.5 lol. I hate all the face book crap it's taking over the world look at all the contests on here gotta be face book or contests on other sites everything is either Facebook or twitter. My saw gunner is obsessed with it every sec of down time he gets he's on Facebook. Then there's all these games centered around it like that dumb words with friends every one is always playing that game.

My wife does the same thing and I haven't got a clue as to why.

I read the title to this thread and thought "Uh oh, someone is home alone with a warm apple pie" :roflmao1:

lol yea same here. it is pretty ridiculous how some peoples lives seem to revolve around facebook. i cant go anywhere anymore without hearing someone say "omg did you see what numb nuts posted on facebook?" it kinda annoys me. everywhere i go i see people glued to their phones. i to used to have a myspace but havent logged in in idk how long. i really dont care about what people are doing every second of everyday or 99% of the people i went to high school with. lol i just dont get it.

I'm on hiatus from Facebook, but that does not mean I think it's a useless service, I still peek in. Is BR really any different ? People that do not bass fish, and even some that do, may have little or no interest in Bassresource, clearly evident as some members seldom post. Other types of fisherman have little or no use for certain popular bass techniques and gear, however some of those types are here for the social aspect and that brings us to FB. Any of the on line forums are all social networking, each with it's own merits and shortcomings. I'm not a member of a walleye forum, cooking forum, pickup truck forum, yachting forum and so on.........I have little or no interest in them. That said FB can link you into to any of them, including BR, wonder if Glenn knows how many new members are here because they found BR on FB.

I'm a member of a few of the FB groups and I am interested certain information, in addition my kids and gr kids are active Facebookers, an easy way to see what's going on from afar. Facebook has weaved itself into the fabric of society, you can be a member or not, you can be active or not, all ones own personal choice.

My wife thinks I'm crazy for being on fishing forums with thousands of posts under my belt, of course she is right, I am crazy, but no more or less than a Facebooker.

My wife compairs BR to FB all the time and yes as they are both social networks i don't think they are even close to being on the same page. Most people on FB and by most I mean the younger generation are on there for 1 or 2 reasons they are usually looking for a hookup and as a popularity contest. Almost every one I know meets girls/guys on FB to hook up or party with. I have nieces and nephews that are constantly on there just looking for some random person to hook up with or info on party's at peoples houses they don't even know because there friends friend friend who threw a few clicks you stumbled across clicking on pretty faces. Plus not to mention I highly doubt if u look at your friends list you really truly are friends with 1000+ or even 250+ people. That number only got that high for reasons I stated above the " oh he's cute or oh she's hot" click and now were friends. Here on BR what we all shoot some bull an talk bout fishing educating eachother on new and old proven techniques were not on here cruising for babes other then fat pre spawners.

That said I also can't stand hearing people say that d**n " it's Facebook official now" when regarding a person they are seeing my 21 year old niece said that bout her now fiancé just last year after "seeing" the guy for 6months but it didn't count because it wasn't Facebook official yet they didn't want people to see they were of the market it's retarded if you ask me

My wife has started refering to BR as Fishbook. I personally think its kind of witty.

I tried myspace when it first came out. I lasted about a month before I got sick of everyone asking to be my friend. I think there is most likely a good purpose for it, especially from a business standpoint. I just could do without the constant popularity contest that it comes with.

I heard a psychologist explain something crazy the other day. Un-friending someone or publicly saying something rude about them on facebook is the equivalent to standing in a crowded room/party of people 10 years ago, pointing at someone and yelling "I don't like you". What it means to be "social" has definitely changed with the younger generation. Its weird but I understand it.

But no one knows if you unfriend someone...There is no notifications that say you unfriend someone, so the only person that really knows would be yourself.

Sirsnook is on the money...while facebook is definitely different from this website/message board, they aren't completely different. All they are are "gossip" corners. While we take in what's the latest, newest, coolest technique in fishing.Facebook is more socially active in what who's doing what. Internet is one big social empire. I call it the "gossip mill" for all generations.

yes,I have facebook......kinda to mess around with my friends and keep in touch with em'. and I'll agree with you...some people take facebook way too serious. But I could say that about people in the fishing world too.....

I kind of disagree.

Facebook is mostly talking about how much you drank last night or how much you're gonna drink tonight.

It's completely useless information. I don't have one and never will.

Of course, this all depends on how old you are.

If you're in mid-adulthood, then it would be different maybe (I don't know, since I'm not there).

My old lady, pretty much uses it as a gossip board with all her friends. I've still yet to find a use for it in my daily life. It would cut into my BR time if I did FB too. Which between work and fishing I really don't have loads of time for anyway. Except during the long stretches of me and my helper driving between jobs.

Your disagreement is your entitlement. I've seen some of the posts from my gr children, I honestly don't expect much more from them, ages 10,11 &13, I would expect a tad more from a college student. The groups I'm involved with are pretty much made up of men and women my age from the neighborhoods we lived in and schools we attended, elementary thru college. I won't begin to say what college life was like in the 60's, except to say there isn't much done today we didn't do then.

FB is like any social medium, it's what one makes of it. I have no experience with college age kids anymore, but I would think FB has interesting and beneficial links for anyone, even those choosing to go thru life in a drunken stupor.
