silvercliff_46 Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 After 50 years, I know my girl. I bought her a new spinning rod, and reel. Last year she broke the tip off her good rod, one I bought her a couple of years ago for Valentine's day. She broke the tip, and looked devastated when it happened. I trimmed it back from it's full seven foot to roughly six foot six. Actually I don't think it hurt much, and in fact gave it a bit more starch to set the hook and drag bass out of the slop we generally fish in. Still it was her good rod, and it was broken. Yesterday when the package showed up, I am sure she thought I bought the rod for myself. When she saw her name on it, she broke out smiling. When she opened it, she really beamed. It may not have been a top line rod, but it was the best rod we could afford, and is in the class of my best rod. Wait until the reel shows up in a couple of days. 1 Quote

That is one of the sweetest things I've read on here. Hell yeah dude. My wife and I have been together for 8 yrs. Now. And of all the stuff Ive gotten her all she wants is a card. It's awesome how the little things just make their day. Quote
scrutch Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Maybe I should try to get my wife a new rod and reel for V day. She doesn't fish, but hey, it's worth a try right? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 11, 2012 Global Moderator Posted February 11, 2012 You know you found a special woman when you can buy her a rod and reel for Valentine's and she doesn't get mad at you! I bought mine a St. Croix Avid Pearl spinning rod and a Quantum Energy PT10 for Valentine's day last year, cost more than almost any of my combos! Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted February 11, 2012 Super User Posted February 11, 2012 Good for you Cliff, that should keep her on her toes until ice out! You'll have to report back on what she got for you. I've told my wife not to get many anything for quite a few years. I made the mistake once of asking her to get me something that would take my breath away and the old girl bought me a pillow! Better safe than sorry is my motto. Quote

Super User Marty Posted February 12, 2012 Super User Posted February 12, 2012 All these ads I'm seeing for Valentine's on TV are for jewelry, chocolates and Vermont Teddy Bears. Haven't seen any for Loomis or Fenwick. But I'm glad you made her happy. Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 12, 2012 Super User Posted February 12, 2012 Cliff, that brought tears to my eyes. What a wonderful Valentine gift. You are a really sensitive guy. I am getting the Go Cutter for my wife as she is a quilter. I know she will love it as much as your wife loves the new rod. Quote

The only ads I see regarding wifes and fishing rods, has the wife shoving the rods down garbage disposals and trash compactors! Quote
tholmes Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 I bought my wife a rod and reel (along with the usual flowers, candy, etc.) for our first anniversary. Sure, it was a Zebco 33 and a Shimano 'glass rod, but she loved that I would want to include her in my fishing. Plus it sure beat her Popiel Pocket Fisherman Tom Quote
