How do you like it ?

I have a Smoke 150 but I have it in a 7.3:1 gear ratio so I'm not cranking with it, instead I'm burning spinnerbaits or fishing jigs and worms. The 150 has an audible click spool tension knob as well as a micro click drag adjustment, it is extremely smooth and of course it is light. This is a level of refinement I never experienced in a Quantum reel before, now don't get me wrong, I have a few Quantum reels and I like them, good work horse reels that perform well and are pretty durable but the Smoke 150 feels and fishes like a lot more expensive reel. If you are thinking of grabbing one in a a slower gear ratio then go ahead, there is no worry with it, you'll get a very light solid reel that is performs really well at casting and gives you a super smooth retrieve. This was a good buy for me in terms of performance, head and shoulders above every other reel they made.

I agree with minnow, the Smoke reel is everything you could ask for and more. I have the Smoke PT SL100 in a 7.0:1 gear ratio which I use primarily for burning spinnerbaits, flip/pitching senkos, and finesse jigs. For cranking you're going to want a much slower gear ratio, something in the 5.3:1 range, basically the slower the better. You want to be able to slow you're crankbait down to a crawl so that you can feel everything when fishing through cover or dragging along rocky bottoms. Also rod choice is crucial when using crankbaits. You're gonna want something with an extra fast action tip so that you give the fish a chance to take the lure, and yourself a chance to set those treble hooks without ripping the lure out of the fish's mouth. Nice, I did know they made it in a 5.3:1, I would definitely go for it, just remember the rod is just as important when cranking, good luck & tight lines...

Its an excellent reel. Solid all around.

If you end up purchasing one - open it up and grease it up. The one I've open was dry right out of the box. Not a drop in it.

And so to put a lid on this one - After seeing the info here and combined with what I could find on other sites, I still went with a Quantum, just kicked it up a notch.

Found a very good deal on the Quantum Tour KVD Cranking Classic - TKVDC150PPT.
