Brian Needham Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 1. what jig stand do I need to buy? 2. what wire to most guys use to tie with? thanks Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted February 9, 2012 Super User Posted February 9, 2012 I like using 24 to 26 gauge wire, it isn't hard and you don't need a fly tying vise to do it either. If however you feel better using a vise, make sure you get one that can hold the larger hooks as not all vises will hold a jig hooks. UIf you need to know where to get a vise and which one, try www.lurepartsonline.com and get the Supreme Vise, it is only 25 dollars and will hold up to a 5/0 hook securely. Quote

Super User Jig Man Posted February 10, 2012 Super User Posted February 10, 2012 Get the wire at a hardware store or craft store. I have a worn out electric motor and take wire out of it. You'll need two pairs of pliers to pull the wire tight. Quote
RyneB Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 I get mine at Hobby Lobby. I get black, white, brown 20 guage wire for $2 for 300 feet. Cant beat it. Quote

Good luck to you but be careful, this is a very addicting hooby. What will happen is you will end up liking the ability ot put your own skirts on and make your own patterns then you'll end up getting unpainted heads and doing the paint yourself. Once that happens you are pretty much hooked and soon you'll have molds and melting pots and you will have little time for socializing as you will be too busy pouring and painting. Again, good luck and may all your jigs come out nice and catch lots of fish! 1 Quote

Then i got a little bass jig making kit and bought a few painted heads and threw together some pre made skirts. Then i bought some skirt material from fishingskirts.com and a few painted heads and then the addiction started. Now I have skirt material everywhere and unpainted heads that i got from Cadman and powder paint everywhere. I have more jigs than i will ever fish. Quote

I haven't convinced myself to climb that last plateau.........yet Quote
