boystcroix Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 I'm just wondering if anyone has any of their rifles. I'm considering getting a C93, which is an HK 93 clone, I have heard mixed reviews of their products. I get guns at wholesale but the problem is I have to get them sight unseen, and alot of times if there is an issue it must go to the manufacturer to be taken care of. The major problem I'm hearing about is that Century is not getting the bolt gap correct on this gun. I have done alot of gunsmithing and am capable of installing new rollers to correct this problem myself, but I'm just wondering if anyone has one of these rifles and what your opinion is on it. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted February 7, 2012 Super User Posted February 7, 2012 On the Gs the headspace problem was instead of changing the rollers to adjust the headspace the "Monkeys" were actually grinding the bolt. I have built A G3 from a parts kit and it was way nicer than a "Monkey" gun but if you aren't set up to build just buy one from them. Worst case you have to send it in to get it fixed... Sometimes they actually do the repairs correctly the first time! Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted February 7, 2012 Super User Posted February 7, 2012 The HK 93 was the first assault rifle I ever fired I remember it like it was yesterday but it was let's see 17 years ago I was 8 my buddy's dad had the HK 93 and a original Belgium FAL and we shot old bowling pins it was a blast he had the original single post scope for it as well. We also shot a few USPs that day I got spoiled being introduced to shooting. I haven't heard of the century guns though idk if I could ever buy a clone of a HK gun heckler and Koch Is where it's at. A little off topic but speaking of HK I just got their new M320 grenade launcher I'll get some pics soon Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted February 7, 2012 Super User Posted February 7, 2012 You have almost surely seen or shot a gun that was either built or imported by Century. They imported TONS of Nagants and SKS Rifles & built or had built most of the AKs/PSLs on the market like the WASR . As far as a G3 clone goes they are built with mostly original H&K G3 parts but a H&K rifle will cost $2500-6000 and a Century can be had for $599 Was the first assault rifle you shot a 91 or a 93 ? I don't remember a lot of 93s around back then. Quote

But I haven't shot a century gun all the sks I shot are old from the 70s the ak I usually shoot is a red Russian pre ban. Quote

Look to see who imported them . It will be on the barrel or receiver. I sold a 1951 Tula last week and I think it was a CIA (Century) BTW I've never heard of a Pre Ban SKS I don't think they were part of the AWB but then I do remember seeing them without Bayonets so maybe they were Neutered during the ban? Super User clayton86 Posted February 7, 2012 Super User Posted February 7, 2012 Def a 93 then because it was 5.56 and when I say pre ban I mean prior to 94 and th sks my father in law got got when he came hone from Vietnam. But it was definitly a hk93 because it was .223/5.56 and the FAL was 7.62/.308 remember distinctly the HK would barely make the bowling pins wobble and the FAL sent them flying. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted February 7, 2012 Super User Posted February 7, 2012 That sounds like an awesome SKS! A VN bringback with no import markings is a collectors dream. It may have had some paperwork with it showing how it came into the country, If he has that it's even cooler . By Red what do you mean? Is the stock wooden? Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted February 7, 2012 Super User Posted February 7, 2012 Yeah wooden stock all Russian markings hammer and sickle stamps Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted February 7, 2012 Super User Posted February 7, 2012 And the sks is pretty nice it's in like mint condition never been restored my father in law is OCD when it comes to maintaining his guns me I could care less as long as they ain't rusty who ares if it gets scratched or knocked around not him all lock and key never see the woods always oiled or even packed with cosmaline his sks is the best looking sks iv ever seen but probably the worst shooting bit it could be the fact he is still on the original case of ammo he got with it back in the day. Super User ww2farmer Posted February 7, 2012 Super User Posted February 7, 2012 The only Century Arms guns I have any exp with is/was there cast M1 Garand receiver clone. TERRIBLE , they were junk. Guys in my reenacting unit would buy them and have me assemble them into rifles using surplus GI parts kits. I probably had a dozen out of the 20 or so I built that were flawed, and several of those that I could not do any thing with they were so bad. You name it, biggest problem was the barrel threads, some were cut so bad I couldn't screw a barrel in, a lot of them had problems indexing with a barrel. Op rod track was out of spec causing op rod dismounts when firing, no rear sight referance marks and on and on....I gave up working with them. Thank god the CMP started selling USGI receivers, much much easier to work with and only 1 in 1000 will give any trouble. Quote
RyneB Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I own a Century WASR AK 47 and i LOVE it. Quote

Super User bigbill Posted February 23, 2012 Super User Posted February 23, 2012 I have a Century Arms Cetme G3 in 308 and i got a good one and i was one of the lucky ones. Most had bolt/roller problems and some had canted front sights too. I just received a VZ24 czech 7mm mauser rifle that is a turd and they called it in very good condition. I do not trust CAI anymore and i only purchase ammo from them now. If your looking for an awesome rifle in 308win i would suggest the brand new russian saiga in 308win with the 16'' barrel. Mine will shoot 1 1/2'' groups benchrested at 100yds using surplus south african 308 ball ammo. Were purchasing a brand new russian ak/akm rifle not someones butcherd rework. Quote
