My Setups And A Few Questions

Hey guys. First off, I am wondering what type of maintenance specifically for each reel I should perform, i'll list my reels below.

-Shimano Curado 201E6 (just got it in 2011) - Used it a month or two a few times a week, always dried it off and blew out water as it got wet.

-Quantum Accurist PT (maybe from 2001 or so) - I disassembled this reel last year and re-applied hot sauce oil and grease. I don't know if this stuff needs to be lubed every once in a while or if it's a clean and redo once a year type lubricant.

-Abu Garcia Ambassedeur Revo SX (just got it this weekend) - Never used, heard they come somewhat dry depending on the reel

So my question is, should I do anything to these reels or should i just wait out the season and do maintenance as the season comes to a close?

Incase anybody is interested, I'm pairing the Shimano with a 6'6" medium heavy St. Croix triumph 1 piece and it has 30# red powerpro on it.

The Quantum is on a 6'6" ugly stik medium with #50 powerpro green.

And the Abu Garcia will be on a 6' medium heavy lightening rod with #50 green powerpro

I think i'm going to use the Shimano/St. Croix for a plastics rod

The Quantum will be a frogging/top water rod

And the Abu Garcia will be my spinner/Buzz bait rod

I use my equipment pretty hard and I only clean the reels once a year and lube twice a year. Unless you drop your reels in mud or something this schedule keeps your reels in good order and they also last a long time. Anytime you use a low viscosity reel oil like hot sauce or reel butter it is best to use small amounts and relube every 6 months, gears get grease and bearings get oil, you can also use acetone to flush out the bearings once a year too.

So I don't really have to worry about em? I guess I'll end up cleaning them at the end of this season. Does anybody know if I should live the revo or are they just case by case rumors?

Lube reels as needed. Fully disassemble and/or have them professionally cleaned annually. How often you need to lube depends on the lubricant, your use, the conditions... Many variables are in that one. I lube my primary reels at least every two weeks on the spool bearings and usually handle bearings. Not as often for internals and levelwind.

Depending on the feel of the cast, I usually tear down the reel once a year and fully relube. Soak the bearings in acetone for about 5 minutes to clean out. Grease and oil where manufacture recommends. Spool bearing get a drop of oil every once a while, due to they undergo the most torture. As long as you do this you should be ok. Most reels I find are a little on the dry side for me from the factory. I usually try to use them a good bit before teardown and lubing to my liking.
