Skeet Reese Rods

I'm wanting to buying a rod to pitch with and I've narrowed it down to a skeet reese rod. I know they make a pitchin/flippin, a pitchin, and a heavy cover rod. I don't want the big 8' rod because its really unbalanced so it's down to the other two. They are both 7'6" Heavy fast action rods but the heavy cover rod is lighter. I guess what I'm asking is which of the two is better?

Very good idea to take my reel in with me next time, thought of that after i went to BPS today..... the two rods have the same 3/8-1 1/2 rating and 12-30lb line rating so the only difference besides the name is one is the micro honeycomb series and the other is the s-curve. Does guide size really matter with braid? I'll be using 50lb. sufix

the only deal with micro guides is I like to tie a flou leader on and they drag a little if leader goes into the eyes so I prefer regular guides

I personally wouldn't buy one of those pencils but of the two I'd say the micro honeycomb. I've never fished them but the original tessera rods have seriously crappy actions.

I'm not familiar with the Skeet Reese rods, but I think they are the same as the Blair Wiggins. I have seen the inshore rods in action, excellent for the money and I would buy one. I'm in the process of pulling the trigger for a Blair Wiggins Flats Blue, haven't decided which one yet.

I have a skeet rod, and if you do get one don't get the micro honeycombs, the tip eye will bend and fall out on you unless you replace it. If it was a triple foot guide on the tip it would be a good rod for the money, that and the bad sensitivity are the only down falls. I would get a different rod if i were you.3

I dont know about the rods but the skeet reese reels are junk. That would steer me clear of the rods.

I probly caught 400a bass on my skeet Reese cranking rods and 200 or more on my spinning rod and 100 or so on my heavy cover rod just this last year no sensitive. Problems. Or issue with my the rods at all

I only have one of the Skeet rods...the Spinnerbait/Worm model. I wouldn't use it for worming, but I do use it for spinnerbaits, lipless cranks, occasional shallow cranks, and it makes a decent rod for Zara Spooks. No issues at all after two seasons.

I too would agree,with this.I work at a Gander store part/time,and I have looked at these rods and if it were me i would pass! One, it is made up of part fiberglass and they seem a bit heavy to me.With the part fiberglass you give up sensitivity. It would be a better crankbait rod. Just my two cents! And for pitchin/flippin I would want more sensitivity.

I have two S-Glass crankin' rods and I love them. Not sure I'd buy any of the other models as the feel isn't there IMO but the S-Glass cranking rods are perfect for small to medium sized cranks. Paired with a Curado E5 or E6 they are fantastic.

I just bought a 7'2 jig worm tessera rod to upgrade my jig rod and its great. good feel fast tip. i throw 3/8 to 1/2 oz jigs and i feel everything. i like the feel of the rod and some say its a heavy rod but i like it because I feel more comfortable that it want break on a good hook set. It can cast a 1/8-3/16 oz tx rig nice to. Caught a 5IB on it no problem. Like the rod might get another. Tight lines

Thanks everybody for all your posts! I'll be getting either the skeet reese micro heavy rod or the 7'6" MH veritas during the spring classic sale, still a really tough decision!!

I've been looking looking to replace a couple of rods, always a hard decision. One day I want rod A, next day I don't, then I do....bottom line just have to pull the trigger and buy it. One rod I'm interested in I'd like to purchase at BPS during their trade in program, call first to see if they have in stock what I want. Taking my reel is a must.

Nothing wrong with the Skeet rods IMO. I also work at Gander, but instead of just looking at them I do own two and they work fine. The Heavy Cover rod has done great by me. I use it for punching and throwing frogs sometimes. Worked great for punching, had no problem feeling a bite and it definitely has the power to pull them out.

Had the Veritas' Micro's been available when I purchased the SR rod, I probably would have went with the Veritas as well.. Mainly because I don't care for the color.

I don't see nothing wrong with them for the price point but the fast action rods in the series have less backbone than other fast action rods of the same power. I know I'm sounding like a broken record but if there is a technique that you use that a 6'9" or 6'10" would work the Fenwick Elite Techs are on amazon in the 75-80 dollar range and they are head and shoulders above the Skeet Reese rods in terms of quality and performance but they lack a 7' model in a heavy power which is a big deal breaker for a lot of anglers.

I have a Veritas and and Skeet Reese...I would go with the Veritas all day every day hands down! ...just my MO
