bassh8er Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 I'm trying to cut back on setups this year, and I have it narrowed down to the following 5. 7'M Mojo casting rod with PQ 7'MH Mojo casting rod with PQ 7'H Mojo casting rod with PQ 7'Compre crankbait casting od rwith PQ 7'M Carbonlite spinning rod with Johnny Morris spinning reel I think I'm pretty set on the Compre and putting some 12# flouro on it for cranks, and maybe some 6 or 8 on the spinning reel, but I'm kind of lost on what to put on the three casting rods. I throw the normal bass baits: spinnerbaits, plastics, jigs, topwaters, frogs, etc... What do you guys think? Braid on the heavy rod for throwing frogs and maybe the occasional jig? Would I be better off using mono for the other medium and medium heavy setups so I can still thrown topwaters, or would only the MH need buoyant line? I've also thought about putting some braid on the spinning rod with a flouro leader. I would be mostly using that setup for shakey heads and weightless plastics; good idea? Thanks for the help. I don't fish tourneys or anything for money, but I would like to most effectively cover as many situations as possible with these 5 setups. Size of line is also in question; I don't fish anything too deep, clear, or with too much cover. Also, I have a 5.whatever ratio PQ on my cranking rod, and the other 3 are 6.4, 6.4 and 7.1. Which rod and line setup would work best for the burner reel? Thanks for looking, and I know it's a lot of questions. Quote

Well braid on everything for me no need to complicate things If not clear water and not much structure then no leader needed really. Quote
jj'sbassinforfun Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 I'd put the burner reel with the braid on the heavy rod. Extra speed will get them out of the wood/grass. Plus the extra speed gets it back to the boat quicker(with less effort) once the bait is out of the strike zone. I use a 7 1/2 ft Vengeance with an STX HS for jigs/Texas Rig and Carolina Rig setup. I also try to keep my count to about 5 setups, No room in my lil boat. Quote
Packard Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Mono or Copoly on your jerkbait/topwater rod. I like P-Line C21 or Sunline Super Natural. I think braid will work on your Frog/Jig rod. I like flouro on anything that doesn't float or suspend because it will hurt the action you want. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted February 5, 2012 Super User Posted February 5, 2012 50 lb sufix 832 on all baitcasters. Quote
bigfishbk86 Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 50 lb sufix 832 on all baitcasters. Please, don't do this. I'd put 65lb suffix performance braid on the H action, 12 or 15lb cxx on the other baitcasters, and 10lb cx on that spinning set-up. Quote
