Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 4, 2012 Global Moderator Posted February 4, 2012 I took my jon boat out for a few hours before work and decided to try the pond behind work. I did really well early last year on jerkbaits and this day was no different! I ended up with 21 bass and 1 big crappie. My biggest bass was a very healthy 4 1/2 pound fish on a 78 pointer. Right before I had to leave for work I tried a new color of the new Luck E Strike jerkbait and caught my second biggest one of the day, a 3 pounder. Wish the wind wasn't blowing so hard, tough to control a little 12' boat in 15 mph winds! Probably caused me to miss another 10 fish becase I was messing with the trolling motor. 2012 bass count-122 Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted February 4, 2012 Super User Posted February 4, 2012 WOW! 122 fish so far is a GREAT start! Congrats on the trip! Jeff Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted February 4, 2012 Super User Posted February 4, 2012 Nice bass. What do you think about the RCSTX? I bought two but haven't had the right opporunity to try them yet. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 4, 2012 Author Global Moderator Posted February 4, 2012 Nice bass. What do you think about the RCSTX? I bought two but haven't had the right opporunity to try them yet. I've been impressed with them so far. I can't tell much of a difference between how they fish and the Megabass. I'd suggest changing the split rings though because I had a fish pull a hook and split ring off the bait. They'be been good, durable baits and the finish has held up on my first one after a few dozen fish. nice feb. fish! i've been meaning to try out some jerk baits on my local pond. what line do you prefer to use? do you have any retrieve recommendations for these cold bass? Jerkbaits are my go-to bait for cold water ponds. The ponds around here have too much moss on the bottom to even think about any kind of plastic or jig. I usually use 8-12 pound mono or copolymer for my jerkbaits in ponds. You have to mess with retrieves day to day it seems like. Most of the time I start with 2 soft twitches and about a 5 second pause. Sometimes you can fish faster, sometimes it takes 10-20 second pauses between twitches. The biggest one in my post I was fishing it almost like a plastic worm. It was only about 2 feet deep so I had the rod high in the air and just pulling straight up about 4-6 inches at a time to try to keep it out of the moss. It was a very light bite and felt like it just stuck on a piece of grass before I leaned into her. Quote
IneedAnewScreenName-972354 Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Don't mess with success! Great start to the New Year! Quote
hookset on 3 Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 B, can I suggest a 10lb mushroom anchor for those windy days. I fish out of a canoe and use an 8lber with no probs. Those are nice size bass for Feb. in OPEN water. Crazy huh! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 8, 2012 Author Global Moderator Posted February 8, 2012 Yeah I'd normally have an anchor with me but I was in a hurry today and forgot it. I was really wishing I had it fighting that wind though! Quote
Redwiggler Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Nice fish and great start to a new year. Work and fish at the same place, I would never get any work done. Quote
