Berkley Nanofil - What "size" Are You Using?

I have been looking hard at this product for the past couple weeks, and I think I will give it a try on my spinning rod. I normally have 6# mono or fluorocarbon spooled up. I use this almost exclusively for shaky head and throwing small jig/grubs. Question I have is this - would you spool with 12# nanofil or 6# nanofil? 12# nanofil has a diameter of 0.008", compared to 6# Berkley 100% fluorocarbon which has a line diameter of 0.010". Or would you go with the 6# nanofil in order to have the thinnest line?

I've been using 12lb on one spinning rod to fire 4" swimbaits as far as I can under a hanging cable at a warm water discharge lake and like it pretty well. I've heard the 8lb fishes shakeyheads and finesse plastics very well also. Most guys I know that fish it use a short fluoro leader also.

I use 12# . I've heard that the nanofil lb. test strength in real accurate.

I had it. Used it for three trips and did away with it. It made a weird noise going through my guides, and I felt like it had too much body and wasn't particularly sensitive, especially for the price. Just my $.02.

Of the two sizes you asked about, I'd go with the 12#. NanoFil can be a little knot touchy, and you might have some issues with 6# and shaky heads. I'd personally lean toward 8# or more likely 10# myself just because I like to go as thin as possible with my line diameter. Have used both 4# and 6# NanoFil since early summer (2011) for open hook finesse fishing though and really like the line.

Ive only used the 6# mostly throw a senko & crawlers. I dont catch big fish so I dont really feel underpowered with the line. The lake has very little structure as well so nothing to get tangled in. I dont use leader and dont think it has mattered Had my best 1-1/2 hrs stretch while using the line so the fish didnt mind it. Lake clear with 15' visibility. Now if leader for abrasion then that could be useful cause the line does fray after a few fish.

Used only the 12# with no leader most of last summer and fall. Had no problems with it and took 4 1/2# smallie out of tires and cable without any failures. Like any line, it will fray somewhat when used around anything abrasive, so you need to retie like you would with mono or fluoro. The mini diameter is fabulous.

I used it mostly for wacko Senkos in 5" thin and 4" regular and slim Senkos. I might decide to try some 8# also.

I'd recommend it.
