Trickerie Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Was wondering how you all stored soft plastics? I find I have a ton of soft plastics, and currently I've been keeping them in the bags they come in, separated into types, worms, creatues, etc in freezer bags. However, still seems to take up a ton of room. Any better ideas? What about putting them in airtight tackle storage containers? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 2, 2012 Global Moderator Posted February 2, 2012 Plastics take up tons of space, not really way around it. I use binders and freezer bags, haven't found a better way to do it as of yet. Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 2, 2012 Super User Posted February 2, 2012 Bluebasser86, I also have some plastics in freezer bags but I went to Target and have purchased some of the plastic file cabinets which I stack on top of a dresser and on the floor of my man cave. I put a piece of paper in the front inside of each drawer and have labled it with what is in the draw, such as Senkos, Trick Worms, Creature Baits, Rage Tails, etc. Some of the draws hold more than one type of bait. Not the greatest system but when I get ready to go fishing at least I can decide what to take by looking at the labled draws and then go into that draw and search for the specific plastic. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 2, 2012 Global Moderator Posted February 2, 2012 Oh man I like that idea! That would help me keep my platics in the garage way more orgainized I believe. Thanks! Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted February 2, 2012 Super User Posted February 2, 2012 Every so often Walmart puts plastic shoe boxes on sale for a buck or so, sometimes less. Drop a $20 on this project to start. It works for me to keep over flow separated. In the boat storage, its hard to beat zip lock freezer bags, in the gallon size. Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 2, 2012 Super User Posted February 2, 2012 Bluebasser, they are plastic STORAGE containers. You can buy as many as you want and stack the on top of each other. Many sizes to select among. Quote
crankbait2009 Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 http://www.staples.c...413:7882STMB.04 I use this. Mine is a little smaller but the handle makes it very easy for carrying. Store all the bags inside and it works! I think I got mine at Wal-mart or Target (but you get the idea). They are stackable too Quote
BadBASS88 Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 i use a 3 ring binder with wholes punched in the orginal packages above the zip lock part. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted February 2, 2012 Super User Posted February 2, 2012 I keep all of my baits in boxes or tackle bags. I bought a plastic closet at Lowes and put the extra stuff in it. Quote
bassh8er Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I've posted this before, but I made a tackle shelf in my garage. I keep all of my lures in Plano boxes and the plastics like the picture shows. I keep all plastics in their original bags and separate them in Wal-Mart totes by type of plastic. The totes were about $1 a piece. Quote
jokerjp Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 I use these, they fit bait packages perfectly, stack nicely, and have an attached lid. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005HOSYSE/ref=oh_o04_s00_i00_details Quote
psuangler91 Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 i use a 3 ring binder with wholes punched in the orginal packages above the zip lock part. Thats a great idea, I've always wanted to use the binders but never want to remove anything from the original packaging. I feel so stupid when I don't think of something that simple myself. Quote
Trickerie Posted February 3, 2012 Author Posted February 3, 2012 Some great ideas all around Thanks all Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted February 3, 2012 Super User Posted February 3, 2012 I've got both kinds, but I prefer the plastic shoe boxed with the attached lid. One less thing to misplace. Quote
Super User whitwolf Posted February 4, 2012 Super User Posted February 4, 2012 I use this: Easily organized, take what I need for whatever season/pattern, and It takes but a few minutes to know exactly what I have and what I need to purchase for all my tackle. Quote

Super User ww2farmer Posted February 7, 2012 Super User Posted February 7, 2012 I have several of the big deep one compartment 3700 size plano boxes that I keep on the boat. One for senkos/flukes, one for flipping baits/jig trailers, one for drop shot/shaky head/finesse etc, and another one with misc stuff like Soft plastic frogs, hollow belly swimbaits, 10" worms, grubs, etc.... I keep them full with what I use, and retock them as needed. Extra stuff is at home in rubbermaid totes. I can fit all I need in those boxes. In just the senko/fluke box alone I usally have 2 bags of 4" and 5" baits in a couple different colors, plus a couple bags of 3" + 6" baits too. Same with the flukes. Flipping box is the same way, usualy at least 2 of every thing in the 2-3 colors I use most often. Quote

I've been in tackle shops with less selection, you sir are the master, and I'm a bit envious . I use the gallon size freezee bags organized by type, my tackle box is actually a saddle bag liner out of a Goldwing! I looked at a boat one time that the owner removed the step portion of the casting deck and replaced it with pull out plastic box storage similar to basher's shelf except the boxes were on sliders.
