Bass Junkie Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Do you guys still throw the old in-line spinners, like the Worden's Rooster Tail??? What are ya'lls favorites colors/ sizes. I personally don't have a favorite color, as I'm yet to find one that won't catch fish!!! For Bass I generally throw a 1/4oz. Just wonderin' if anybody still uss these. Also, do any of you guys still throw the old spoons, like the red and white ones found in every old tacklebox in the nation?? If so, how do you fish them??? I mean do you do a straight retrieve or do you add YOUR twist? I find with a lot of the older lures, I'll add my own twist to the retrieve and the twists seem to add to the strike count. Just a couple questions I've been ponderin'. Thats what happens when you suffer fishi' withdrawl. I haven't been on the water in wht, 24 hours??? LOL...... Quote
Infidel. Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 I still keep a 1/6 oz silver baitfish patterned Roostertail with me. There are times when fish are busting on small bait and the typical fare doesn't get em going. Toss in that Roostertail and it works most of the time. Can't say I fish the old Daredevils anymore unless I am trout fishing. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted September 7, 2009 Super User Posted September 7, 2009 Sorry to say, I haven't tossed one since 1987...been meaning to buy a couple, but always forget when I'm at the tackle shop..Doh!! Also use to throw a Mepps alot too.. Quote
Quitlimpin Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 I still throw 1/4-1/8oz white or white/red Roostertails with some regularity. Just cast em out and reel em in. They will catch anything that swims. Quote
BenoBreath Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Still throw the Mepps Comet Mino, in sz 3, 4, & 5. Great for quality bass, pike & walleye. Make sure you use a good ball bearing swivel to avoid line twist. Use a wire leader when fishing for pike. BB Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted September 7, 2009 Super User Posted September 7, 2009 A gold Panther Martin is a mainstay in my tackle box. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted September 7, 2009 Super User Posted September 7, 2009 I made enough last year to last me 5 years.I don't buying them anymore specially when it is cheaper to make them yourself. I like to throw them when the white bass are running in the early spring at a local spot every year.It only lasts 2 weeks and then they just disappear. Walleyes & smallmouth bass like em' too. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted September 7, 2009 Super User Posted September 7, 2009 In - Line spinners are one of my go to lures for river smallies. I have also caught plenty of largemouth on them as well in lakes though I seldom use them in lakes. Panther Martins in sizes 9 and 15 are my favorites. Daredevle spoons catch bass for sure, both largemouth and smallmouth. Great lures to use to give smart and pressured bass a different look. I usually use daredevles for trout and pike though. Quote

BenoBreath Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Hildebrandt Snagless Sally Completely forgot about those. I got a few packed away, in the garage. (somewhere) Thanks, Catt, for jogging my memory. BB Quote
Boogey Man Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 I like a 1/8th oz. white Rooster Tail when I'm out and just want to catch something. Quote
skillet Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 No. 3 and 4 Mepps buck tail with silver or brass blade ... skillet Quote
RobE Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Oh, you bet! My fave is a 1/4 oz Rooster Tail in various shades of white/silver/black. Warren's Double Loon is also a fave in the smaller sizes. I've probably caught more 'accidental' fish on in-lines than any other lure. Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 My #3 Mepps Fury is still a go to bait. Quote
Super User CWB Posted September 7, 2009 Super User Posted September 7, 2009 Kind of a variation, but I love Strike King's Timber Spin. I'm running out though. Anyone have any they would be willing to part with? Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted September 7, 2009 Super User Posted September 7, 2009 i've got a whole 3700 box full of inline spinners. these are my go-to for crappie and big bluegills, and brackish white perch. i haven't had much luck with roostertails, i have a hard time getting them to spin. mepps agila is my favorite "dressed hook" spinner, however, i prefer Blue Fox Vibrax Minnow Spins over all. they are really durable and great. i was at walmart a while ago and got an 8 pack of knockoff mepp's agilas for like a dollar! most of them didnt' have dressed tails so i dressed them with squirrel tail myself. they work great.
