Super User Fishing Rhino Posted January 31, 2012 Super User Posted January 31, 2012 Of all the fiberglass race car bodies I've made, this one is my favorite color scheme. The body is 13 pieces. All the color is in the gel coat. On top of the color, (actually it's the first thing sprayed into the mold) is a Metalflake Spindrift gold/red flake. On the red it looks reddish, orange on the orange and gold on the yellow. The first body I made for this customer was yellow in the front and transitioned to red in the rear. Then he was in a bad crash, and reversed the colors, hoping to change his bad luck. The entire body from front bumper cover to rear bumper cover weighs less than 80 pounds. I'd love to be able to spray the gel coat in the molds and produce a bass boat that looked like this, colorwise. Quote

You can do that with a bass boat. Legned boats do that with there boats. I was at a fishing expo a few years ago. That is what caught my eye to the boat. I have never heard of them before the expo. Here is a sample. The hull stripes and top deck can also be faded. http://media.channelblade.com/boat_graphics/dealers/40106/digi38811961.jpg I was talking to the guys at the expo about the boat. They had a full loaded boat with almost all the options. I asked how munch it cost like it was. There like about 15k less then a slightly decked out ranger of the same size. A bone stock 21 ft with a 225 or 250 is like 45-50k. Its also just not a empty boat at that price. It comes with a lot of stuff you have to pay for from ranger. Also good job on the body. It looks very good. Quote

scrutch Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Nice work Tom! I'd hate to go to a race and watch it get all torn up. Unless that means more money in your pocket, then it would be a little different! Quote
GLADES Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Beautiful looking body. It must be a very fun job to have. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted February 2, 2012 Super User Posted February 2, 2012 That is pretty cool. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted February 2, 2012 Author Super User Posted February 2, 2012 The customer ordered three of them yesterday. Quote
tate Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Tom having purchased more race car bodies than I wish to talk about, I will say your fiberglass work is AMAZING! Nice and thin (good for racing it is not a boat hull), consistent thickness across the panel and from panel to panel, strong yet flexible until mounted and impecable gel coat finish. Some of the best fiberglass body work I've seen in my 15+ years of racing. - Tate Quote
