wrat Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 I used to be in a club in the mid '90s had a ball but life happened and the club died and in the interm no club has really stepped up in my general area (central palm beach county) there are a quite a few a ways south but on a work or a week night it can be a bit of a pita to get to a meeting.... so who has started or restarted a club what did ya do ? how did ya do it? was it easier or harder than you expected? I am pretty sure what killed our club was a decisive split on joining the federation with most of the older members against and the younger members for Quote
UPS VT Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Our club was started right at the time of the "split" I was new to the whole situation so I did not have any pre-concieved ideas. It started as just 6 guys that wanted to be with both organizations and myself. We grew very slowly, I think it was two years before we even had our first club tournament. We currently have close to 30 members which is fairly good size for up here. You just need to be patient, and flexible. If you build it they will come. Quote
tbspeed1 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 I was also looking int starting a fishing club in NJ but the whole process can't be as difficult as the web describes. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Quote
tbspeed1 Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 I googled how to start a fishing club--(http://www.thefishingline.com/StartYourOwnFishingClub.htm) seemed like you needed to be a lawyer. Quote
UPS VT Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Wow, I just looked at that site and they are making it more complicated than it needs to be. Yes, several of those things do need to be considered; but if you are just starting out you really don't need to file non-profit status. When our club first started we did everything in cash. Everything we took in, we payed back out. As we grew and started to host an open tournament we opened a checking account. If you really want to start a club check this out: http://www.bassmaster.com/news/how-start-bass-club Quote
